The recent smear campaign against Dr. Clement Chirman, the Acting Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic Barkin Ladi, is a troubling and politically motivated effort to undermine his principled and pragmatic leadership. This disingenuous attack seeks to mislead the public and detract from the significant advancements being achieved under his administration. It is imperative to address these unfounded allegations and reaffirm Dr. Chirman’s unwavering commitment to transparency, progress, and excellence.

Since his appointment, Dr. Chirman has embarked on a transformative journey that has elevated Plateau State Polytechnic to new heights. One of his most notable accomplishments is the successful accreditation of 31 programs in Engineering, Sciences, and Environmental Studies—a milestone that had been pending since 2018. This achievement underscores his steadfast determination to enhance educational quality and ensure students receive the qualifications they deserve.

Dr. Chirman’s leadership has also stabilized the academic calendar, resulting in increased student enrollment. Additionally, he has prioritized staff development and welfare. Notably, his administration sponsored personnel for training opportunities, including a recent initiative that sent a staff member to China for specialized training in Food Sciences. This commitment to professional growth highlights his belief that a well-supported faculty is essential for student success.

Equally commendable are the infrastructure upgrades and rehabilitation projects under Dr. Chirman’s leadership. Key facilities, such as the Academic Board Room, the Twin Theatre at the Jos campus, and the School of Environmental Studies in Heipang, have been renovated and equipped. He is also overseeing the transformation of the Joshua Dariye Hall into a state-of-the-art facility and the construction of a new Administrative Complex funded through TETFund interventions, which will significantly improve the institution’s operational capabilities.

Dr. Chirman’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and skills acquisition aligns with the vision of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Ongoing discussions with UNDP and other donor agencies aim to establish a makerspace for innovative enterprises, empowering both students and faculty. His recent introduction of a N1 million annual Rector’s research grant encourages high-quality research proposals, contributing to technological advancement and innovation. Additionally, plans to expand academic offerings with new Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses in key engineering and science departments are underway.

Under Dr. Chirman’s guidance, the revitalized Advancement Office has been instrumental in attracting national and international grants, ensuring the institution’s sustainability and growth. To further solidify the Polytechnic’s position as a modern, competitive institution, Dr. Chirman is spearheading the development of a Five-Year Strategic Plan. This plan, coupled with a robust resource mobilization framework, aims to enhance both internal and external revenue generation, ensuring the full realization of his vision.

The recent smear campaign is not merely an attack on Dr. Chirman but a broader political maneuver targeting Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration and its officials. These clandestine efforts to sow discord and confusion are destined to fail in the face of the administration’s resolve to deliver on its education policies and programs. Dr. Chirman remains undeterred by these distractions. His focus remains firmly on the mission of Plateau State Polytechnic: to provide quality education, foster innovation, and support students and staff.

We urge the public to see through these politically motivated attacks and focus on the tangible achievements of Dr. Chirman’s administration. His visionary leadership and dedication have positioned Plateau State Polytechnic for unprecedented success. The institution is on a trajectory toward becoming one of Nigeria’s foremost centers of higher learning. With continued support, Dr. Chirman will undoubtedly lead the Polytechnic to achieve even greater feats.
