The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Plateau State Chapter, have vehemently condemn the unwarranted assault meted on the Director of media Plateau United football club of Jos, Maklek Yaksat.
Recalled, Yaksat was assaulted during the team's away loss to Katsina United in Muhammad Dikko stadium, Katsina on March day 21 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), held 30th January, 2025.
In a statement issued to acenews online in Jos the State capital, chairman of SWAN Plateau State Chapter, Alfred Saiki said the ill treatment done to Plateau United image maker (Maklek Yaksat) is not in tandem with moral ethos of sports globally.
Saiki, tasked relevant stakeholders in the soccer setting, especially the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and NPFL to immediately investigate and unravel the perpetrators of such gullible act.
According to the statement,
"Such acts of violence have no place in the world of sports, which should foster unity, camaraderie, and respect for all individuals involved. The assault on Mr. Maklek Yaksat is a blatant disregard for the safety and dignity of media professionals who work tirelessly to provide coverage, ensuring transparency, and promoting the game we all cherish.
"SWAN Plateau stands in full solidarity with Maklek and calls on the relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), to take immediate and decisive action to investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable.
"We also urge the management of Plateau United to ensure the safety and well-being of all their staff, particularly media personnel, and to collaborate with relevant authorities to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
"Sports must remain a platform for positive engagement, and SWAN Plateau will continue to advocate for the protection and rights of media practitioners in all sports-related activities", the statement concluded.
