The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), has arrest and prosecutes defaulters who err to adhere to sanitation exercise on Saturday.

Recalled, PEPSA set aside last Saturday of every month as the date to observe routine sanitation exercise within Jos and Bukuru metropolis as well as other Plateau environs.

PEPSA enforcement team led by the Director General, Samuel Dapiya sealed a fueling station named; Kaisan oil & gas and general merchants Nigeria Ltd, located around T and T junction as well as shops in Jenta-Makeri, Tudun-wada among other areas within Jos North over violation.
Our correspondent reports that defaulters were charged to mobile court as those who could not meet up with the condition of fine were been subjected to community service.

Unfortunately, despite massive advocacy and sensitisation campaign on the media and other means of communication by PEPSA ahead of the Saturday's 26th July, 2025, sanitation date, most of the offenders claimed not be aware of the sanitation exercise, however, ignorant is not an excuse before the law.

Speaking after the sanitation exercise, DG PEPSA, Samuel Dapiya applauds citizens for compliance but said much is need to be done towards enhancing the mandate actualisation of the agency.
"We have realised there is significant compliance, and people are also participating in cleaning the environment. Around British, where we went, we noticed some businesses were open and some filling stations were also selling. But of course, for us, it’s not about attacking their businesses—it’s about ensuring that this active project of keeping Plateau clean is seen as a collective responsibility.

"So yes, we are not there yet, but I would say we are moving from point A to point B in a positive direction. There is still a lot more to do, and I would like to use this opportunity to say thank you to Plateau people for cooperating with us—to ensure that they own this space, to ensure that their communities are kept clean.

"In as much as I know that the exercise has made movement a bit difficult for people, they should bear with us. When we achieve our goal, sanitation will be done without enforcement. But for now, we must bear the brunt of ensuring that these things are done and sorted within the lifespan of this administration."

Appreciating Governor Caleb Mutfwang doggedness towards ensuring clean Plateau, Dapiya cautioned citizens to desist from erecting structures on waterways, drainages to avoid flooding.
