The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, on Thursday received the Senate President, senators, and members of the National Assembly at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos.
The delegation was in Plateau State to attend the funeral rites of late Professor Janet Plang, wife of Senator Diket Plang, representing Plateau Central District in the National Assembly.
From the airport, the Speaker accompanied the delegation to the COCIN Headquarters in Jos, where the funeral service took place.
The solemn event drew dignitaries from across the country who gathered to honor the life and legacy of the late professor Janet.
Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt Hon Naanlong Daniel Gapyil expressed his condolences to Senator Plang and the entire bereaved family. He described the late Professor Janet Plang as a woman of virtue who impacted many lives through her academic and personal devotion.
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, eulogized the late professor as a nurturing figure who shaped lives through her career in education. He condemned the recurring acts of terrorism in Plateau and reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to support the state in addressing the root causes of insecurity.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, also present at the event, commended Senator Plang for his strength amid grief and prayed for continues comfort for the family.
Other dignitaries in attendance included former governors of Plateau, Edo, and Sokoto States, principal officers of the Senate, traditional rulers, and senior government officials.
A representative of the Wive of the President and Wives of Senators also paid tribute, describing Professor Janet Plang as an accomplished woman of faith and integrity who leaved a life of service. The delegation extended heartfelt prayers and condolences to Senator Plang, his family, and the good people of Plateau State.
In his vote of thanks, Senator Diket Plang expressed profound gratitude to his colleagues, the wives of senators, traditional rulers, and well-wishers from near and far who joined the family to honor his late wife. He described her as a dedicated academic, a loving wife, and a pillar of strength.
Professor Janet Plang was a lecturer at the University of Jos and the beloved wife of Senator Diket Plang, who represents Plateau Central Senatorial District.
