A former member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has charged Plateau youths to be wary of politicians who bent on making empty promises without accountability comes 2027 general elections.
Bagos, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated since 1960, campaign promises have always been the same. But now, the narrative is changing—and it’s the youths driving that change.
"So now, we shouldn’t trust politicians who still come with the same old, loud, empty promises. Like that popular skit going around, who says one thing but does the opposite. That’s not who we should trust", Bagos said.
The former lawmaker made the assertion on Friday at Sarau Event Centre Jos, during a maiden edition of Plateau Northern zone youths summit, titled:" Equipping the next generation transforming tomorrow", in which youths across the six local governments converged and articulate and discuss matters affecting the senatorial district.
Bagos, acknowledged the summit aline with his vision as he decided to aspire for senate seat in 2027.
"In line with my Senate aspiration come 2027, I decided to key into this vision. Looking at the agenda they presented, I keyed into it fully. Let’s do this—because it’s about the youths.
"This summit is where we discuss the future of Plateau Northern youths. Not just to discuss, but to articulate concrete issues that will inform our agenda. This will guide our campaign and aspiration.
"We don’t want to go to the streets making empty campaign promises anymore—saying “we will give you this, we will give you that.” No. This summit is where the youths themselves are saying, this is what we want you to drive your campaign on. These are their issues.
"In civil society terms, this is like a baseline study. And from what I’ve heard, and the feedback I’m getting, 70% of what the youths are concerned about is very different from what politicians assume.
"They’re not just looking for promises—they care about deep-rooted issues like insecurity, their future, and legislative matters. They know the bills. They follow what’s happening in the National Assembly. These youths are concerned about Nigeria. So for me, this summit is a wake-up call. It’s the youths saying."
Meanwhile, the youths collectively endorsed governor Caleb Mutfwang for second term and Hon. Bagos for Plateau North senatorial district position in 2027 elections.
The chairman Plateau Youth Council (PYC) Panan Dapar cautioned youths against comment that will further divide Plateau saying, "if you belong to Party A, carry out your responsibilities with decorum. Do not attack those in Party B. We, the youth, are major contributors to the problems in this state. We stir up tension among ourselves and drag our political leaders into it—making it hard for them to even sit together at the same table to discuss Plateau’s future.
"It is possible—yes, very possible—for someone from Party A to meet with someone from Party B and discuss matters that concern Plateau State. But we often get angry when that happens. We condemn such meetings as betrayal. If I come around PDP, allow me. If I go around APC, allow me. What we should be talking about is not PDP or APC—but Plateau State."
Stephen Akuba who chaired the occasion applauded Bagos mentorship initiative for the present and future generations, noting that the former lawmaker is an epitome of emulation.
