In a significant step towards enhancing affordable and decent accommodation for effective service delivery, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has performed a groundbreaking of about 2,000 housing estate for civil servants in the state.
This noble gesture is a milestone and achievement in the annals of Plateau workforce as civil servants had never acquired a housing units.
It was learned that over 38 hectares of land located in Zanwra community, Miango District of Bassa local government area was acquired at the cost of ₦346,542,000, million and fully paid by the Plateau state government.
Preforming the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Caleb Mutfwang acknowledged that with this project, we are not just building houses rather we are creating homes, communities, and enduring legacies.
"Today’s groundbreaking ceremony represents yet another giant stride in our journey to reposition the Plateau workforce. A worker with a roof over their head is a worker empowered to give their very best.
"Housing is not a privilege—it is a right. A decent home provides comfort, security, and a stable foundation for a dignified life. For too long, many of our civil servants have struggled with inadequate housing, spending most of their earnings on rent and leaving little for other family needs", he stated.
While commending workers dedication, resilience, sacrifice and commitment to duty, the governor challenged them to shun absenteeism and embrace innovation taking into account the ongoing reform at the Plateau civil service.
"However, with every privilege comes responsibility. The ongoing reforms in our civil service are designed to build a workforce that is professional, efficient, and responsive. I urge all civil servants to shun absenteeism, embrace innovation, and uphold the highest standards of integrity. The Plateau we envision cannot be built without a committed and disciplined civil service. Together, let us rebuild trust between the government and the people we serve."
Head of civil service Plateau State, Stephen Pam Fading said the housing scheme is a deliberate strategy by Mutfwang's administration to transform civil service.
He charged developers to deliver the project within time frame, expressed optimism that the estate will stimulate massive development in the state.
The state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Eugene Manji described land acquisition and the commencement of the structures erection as a dream comes true, having spent about ten years with 27 attempt trying to acquire the land.
While appreciating the host community generosity, Manji also appeal governor Mutfwang help with the parameter fencing to curtail insecurity and encroachment.
Representative of DSK company ltd, developers of the project, Engr. Christopher Nathaniel revealed that the 2,000 housing estate were in phases, promised to deliver about 500 housing units within six months time frame in phase one.
He further explained that the project have a tendency of generating about 3,000 jobs for Plateau youths.
