The executive committee members of Jos Old Students Association (JOSA), of the renowned Government Secondary School Jos, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment and determination towards building a stronger and united JOSA family.

The association led by it's president, Amaechi Sunday Duru alongside other executive members made this known while speaking to newsmen recently in Jos, Plateau State capital.

According to him, "JOSA has always been more than just a body — it is a family, a great family with so much we want to achieve together. One or two things I would like to highlight as part of our aims and objectives include building a family where we look out for one another — a true brother’s keeper.

"We want to create a support system because all fingers are not equal. Some of our members are more privileged than others, while some have even passed on, leaving children behind. Many of our members also face different challenges in life and need our support. By coming together as a united body and family, it will be easier for us to identify those in need and collectively offer help where necessary.

"From the progress and success of this convention, I have seen great members of JOSA coming together as one family — competent individuals who, I believe, will help us achieve these goals of supporting and uplifting one another. This truly marks the beginning of a great journey and a significant achievement. I’m very happy with the turnout at this convention", he noted

Recalled, JOSA on Sunday 12th October, 2025, during their convention and annual general meeting, AGM, overwhelmingly passed a vote of confidence for Amaechi and other executive members to continue spearheading the affairs of the association.

The president revealed that the collective endorsement is a clear testament of support and believed members of the association has on them."Their confidence shows they trust that we will take JOSA to greater heights.

"Moving forward, we will work closely with everyone devoid of discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, tribe or religion."

JOSA Vice president, Engr. Issah Bala Idris shed light on the rationale behind the conception of the association.

"It has been a long journey — one that began with the hope of reviving Government Secondary School, Jos. We decided to come up with the name 'JOSA', which represents Jos Old Students Association. From there, we felt the best step was to make it a legal and recognized body. So, we registered Government Secondary School, Jos, as a corporate entity with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and we obtained our certificate in 2017.

"The Government Secondary School Jos Old Students Association (JOSA) is a general body that accommodates every set that passed through the school. It was never meant for any particular set; rather, it represents a complete family. We came together to pursue our aims and objectives — the main one being to unite all members of JOSA as one body and one family.

"By doing this, we believe we can achieve our goal of reviving Government Secondary School, Jos, along Zaria Road, which is currently inactive. That has remained our central objective.

"JOSA operates a central account that is not tied to any specific set — it is a general account under the name *JOSA, Government Secondary School, Jos."

Engr. Idris further disclosed that, looking back, "I must say my executive team has done so much over the past 15 years. We started with just three or four people, and it was really difficult at the beginning. But, by God’s grace, we managed to grow and sustain the association to this point. It wasn’t easy bringing people together because many of our members are spread across different places — some outside Jos, some in other states like Abuja, Lagos, and Makurdi, and some even abroad.

"Despite these challenges, we were able to communicate effectively and create platforms that brought everyone together. This unity has made us proud today.

"With the tireless efforts of my President and other members of the executive, I just want to say a big thank you to everyone for their time, energy, and resources in making this day a success. I’m very grateful and deeply appreciate every member of Government Secondary School, Jos, who has joined us in achieving this progress", he concluded.
