The acting technical adviser to Plateau United Football club of Jos, Gbenga Ogunbote, has stated that his major target is to ensure the team remains in the premier league next season.
Plateau United FC are currently on the button of the table following the completion of first stanza of the ongoing 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign second stanza set to kick off in earnest.
Speaking with the members of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Plateau State chapter over the weekend in Jos, Ogunbote revealed he sort to seek media collaboration and partnership through constructive criticism taking into account that Plateau United is not in a comfortable position.
"The club is not in a comfortable position whether we like it or not. It has become a collective responsibility to ensure that we all contribute our little quotas to making sure that the club rise again and regain all our past glory.
"Your so important that people rely on what they hear or read. So I want to plead with you for understanding so that you use human face doing it. Apart from that together we have to do it, and together we can achieve it".
The acting technical adviser further explained "I actually desired that the team must be strengthen. I am thinking of reinvigorating the team with a few quality legs, and you and I know that it doesn't come easy because we're on season.
"We will try our best to make sure we get players that can manage the situation so that the team can finish strong. In other words we may not get everything we wanted but I am sure we're bringing anything that would enhance the performance of the team.
"We want to look at the team in it entirety especially when your recruiting in the mid season it shouldn't be a whole say matter.
"If you look at it in the first 19 games the team conceded 24 goals and scored 15 goals. It tells you something is wrong with the defence, something is wrong with the midfield, something is wrong with the attack. Because if your attack is not strong enough the pressure comes back to your defence and even if they were good they break once in a while and conceived goals.
"And if your not scoring, it's that your creating chances and your not making use of it or your not creating? It is better if your creating chances and wasting than your not creating. And the report I gathered is if were not creating then something is wrong with the midfield.
"So is all departments, you look at the goalkeeping department, not disrespect to anyone but what makes a player improves on his skills and everything is when he has somebody on his neck. If you don't have a close rival it relaxes and nothing happened. Whether he trained or not train he keeps, whether he commit stupid goals or not, whether he conceived stupid goals or not he plays.
"So those are areas were trying to look at but so far is still work in progress. Were working on how we can shoes the existing players with the new ones together where we managed to see some synergy in the pitch", Ogunbote mentioned.
Also lending his voice, the acting chairman of Plateau United, Al-Hassan Yakmut, acknowledged they have adopted a more coordinated and organised approach in collaboration with stakeholders towards achieving positive results.
SWAN chairman, Plateau State chapter, Alfred Psyche assured his members continues unwavering determination and commitment towards supporting Plateau United FC.
