The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, has expressed his profound appreciation to the Governor of Plateau State and Visitor to the University, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
He commended the Governor’s "Time is Now" administration for prioritising the development and strategic needs of the state’s premier "Ivory Tower."
Professor Best shared these sentiments while hosting a high-powered delegation led by the Plateau State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Philemon Audu Daffi, along with the management staff of the Ministry of Justice.
Describing the visit as a distinct honour, the Vice Chancellor noted that the Ministry’s outreach is a significant step towards strengthening the University’s Faculty of Law. He emphasised that this partnership is designed to transform the faculty into one of the most revered legal institutions in the country.
Professor Best informed the Attorney General that the Faculty of Law recently held an induction for its new students. He noted that the ceremony attracted "men in silk" (Senior Advocates of Nigeria), High Court judges, and other distinguished legal luminaries, all of whom serve as a vital source of inspiration for the aspiring lawyers.
Earlier in the meeting, the Attorney General, Barrister Philemon Daffi, spoke candidly about the Ministry's vested interest in the University’s legal programme.
"We view the Faculty of Law as our own baby," the Commissioner stated. "We cannot give birth to a child and then abandon it..... Consequently, we are determined to partner with this university to ensure this faculty becomes the best in the North, at the very least, as a starting point."
Barrister Daffi further disclosed that the Ministry is actively mobilising resources to ensure the faculty meets the rigorous demands of 21st-century legal education.
In a significant revelation, the Attorney General briefed the Vice Chancellor on his recent discussions with the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Virginia.
He expressed optimism that these international interactions would yield fruitful collaborations, further elevating PLASU’s standing in the global academic community.
The visit concluded with a comprehensive tour of the Faculty of Law's facilities, led by the Attorney General and his entourage, to assess areas for immediate intervention and development.
