The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Plateau State chapter, has strengthen awareness campaign  on menstraul hygiene as they trained adolescent girls.

The training which held on Thursday at the NUJ Secretariat in Jos, coinceded with the distribution of sanitary pads to participants as Plateau NAWOJ executive members marked one year in office.
Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State Council, Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo disclosed that NAWOJ been one of the strong ambience of NUJ has demonstrates resilience and steadfast on issues that concerns women and girls in the society.

"Plateau NAWOJ over the years were at the forefront advocating for gender equality, kicking against human rights violation, encouraging women participation in politics and governance among others",  Pwaspo state.

Emphasizing the significance of mentorship, the NUJ chairman charged participants to take advantage of the training in pursuing their future carries.
Highlighting a rationale behind the training, chairperson of NAWOJ Plateau state chapter, Mrs. Grace Gotip revealed that the aimed was to break the silence, shame, and misinformation around menstruation as NAWOJ intend to address how stigma has cost girls confidence, education, and health.

"As women journalists leveraging the power of information, NAWOJ commits to: promoting menstrual health education, advocating for safe and accessible menstrual products, challenging harmful myths and stereotypes, amplifying voices of girls and women, ensuring media coverage that supports gender equality.

"Menstruation is not a curse, not taboo, not something to hide. It is a sign of health, strength, and womanhood", Gotip said.
The NAWOJ chairperson assured the association will not rest in their oars towards educating communities, supporting girls, advocating for better policies as well as providing safe spaces for open conversations going forward.

Training falicitator, Longret Laurentia, a program manager- women and girl child rescue development initiative, alongside counterpart Jemima, tasked participants to always be on alert in counting their menstraul cycle.
The tutors also charged them not to be ashamed and seek help whenever they have issue, saying as a women they should consider "menstration as their pride and dignity."
