The Justice and Human Development for Peace Initiative (JDPC) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, on Thursday inaugurated a new project to promote peace in Plateau and Kaduna State.

Speaking at the event, Ms Benedict Daber, the Coordinator of JDPC, said that the project is tagged "Peacebuilding, Accountability, Resilience and Local Solutions (PeARLS)".

She explained that the project, funded by Christian Aid, would be implemented in partnership with the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN).

She added that the four-year initiative is under Christian Aid's "Community-Led Peacebuilding Signature Programme".

The Coodinator said the project would be implemented through an interlinked pathways of inclusive peace platform, transformed relationships, early warnings and early response, climate resilient livelihoods and accountability and learning.

Daber particularly said the project targets vulnerable women, youths, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Persons with Disabilities(PWDs)

"This project is intentionally designed to respond directly to the challenges confronting women, youths, IDPs and PWDs

 "At its core, PeARL will strengthen peaceful relationships and building inclusive, locally-led system for conflict prevention, dialogue, reconciliation and social cohesion.

"The project is not importing peace, it is investing in the peace that already exists in communities.

"Through the five interlinked pathways, the PeARL project will build trust where it has been broken, amplify voices that have been silenced and prevent violence before it's starts,"she said.

Daber particularly disclosed that the project would be implemented in Riyom, Bassa, Kaura and Kauru Local Government Areas of Plateau and Kaduna state.
