----- As ADC unveils female Guber running mate
The governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State for 2027 general elections, Brig. Gen. John Sunday Sura retired, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment and determination to restore the lost glory of Plateau if giving the mandate to stir the affairs of the state.
Gen. Sura argued that Plateau is in dire urgent need of strategic and decisive leadership, saying his mission is to confront insecurity, heal fractured communities and restore the lost glory of Plateau.
"We are here to return Plateau back to the state where we used to be. We want to return tourism, we want to return peace on the Plateau. Plateau shall be great again, by the grace of God, with the people of Plateau State. Plateau shall rise again," he declared.
Addressing party loyalists during the official unveiling of Hon. Chundung Kele as the party's governorship running mate on Monday in Jos, Sura acknowledged that the ADC movement is shaking the state and signalling readiness for change.
He said his decision to contest under the African Democratic Congress is not to fulfil personal vanity or disrupt zoning arrangements, but to give Central Plateau and the entire state focused leadership.
"My mission was simple and unshakable: to confront insecurity with courage, to heal our fractured communities, to restore the lost glory of our Home of Peace and Tourism," he said.
The candidate noted that a vision to restore Plateau can never be personalized, stressing that his administration, if elected, will be centred on the people.
"It requires a partnership rooted in competency, integrity, compassion and absolute dedication to public service. As a general, I lead my troops and my troops are the people of Plateau State. Therefore we will build Plateau together," he stated.
According to him, the choice of his running mate was not based on mere political alignment but on character, intellectual depth, empathy and commitment to public service.
"In choosing Chindung, we did not look for mere political alignment, we looked for character with intellectual depth, a person with great empathy who shares the heartbeat of our people. She brings a fresh perspective, executive capacity and unyielding commitment to social justice," he said.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people of Plateau, the ADC will return Nigeria and Plateau to greatness, adding that " Plateau and Nigeria shall rise again!"
Accepting the responsibility deputised Gen. Sura, Chundung Kele stated that, today, I don't see this as a privilege to be a leader, rather I see it as a privilege to become a servant.
"You have gotten a strong servant you can send at any moment, a servant you can rely on, a servant you will cry together and laugh together, a servant that can always hold your hands," she said.
She said in the course of this journey, it's all about Plateau State. It's not about General Sura, it's not about Chundung it's about Plateau State as their structure is Plateau people.
"When they talk about structure in other parties, they are thinking of just the party, but this time around we are returning power back to the grassroots, so that each and every one of us will be a beneficiary," she stated.
The National Chairman of ADC, Senator David Mark, represented by the state chairman, Farmer Dung Daweng Pam, said after today, they will send more shivers across the political landscape of Plateau State. "We are here to tell Plateau people that a new beginning is possible, and a new beginning has come.
"Today we are not just unveiling a running mate, we are unveiling hope. We are unveiling capacity. We are unveiling a ticket that will return power to the people.
"Our party, the African Democratic Congress, after wide consultations and careful consideration, has settled for a combination that Plateau needs at this critical time.
"In General John Sura Rtd, we have a father, a disciplined leader, a patriot with decades of military leadership, statesmanship and integrity. And in Hon. Chindung Kele, we have found a woman of courage, character, compassion, and uncommon grassroots connection.
"She is a daughter of Plateau who understands the pains of our women, the aspirations of our youths, the cries of our IDPs, and the diversity of our 17 Local Government Areas.
"This ticket is a message of healing, unity and inclusion. It says that under ADC, no one will be left behind. It says that government will be about the people, not about a few", Pam admitted.
