Journalists in Plateau State have been advised to ply their trade with professionalism especially when it has to do with conflicts.

The advice was given during a three (3)day workshop on conflict sensitivity training for journalists with the theme, Transforming the Farmer/Herder conflicts and promoting freedom of Religions and belief in Nigeria's Middle Belt, organized by the "Search for Common Ground" at Crispan Hotel Jos.

According to the organizers, the aim of the training is to ensure journalists play vital roles in actualising a violent free society, as there have been instances where wrong reportage by journalists have escalated conflicts especially between farmers and herders.

Journalist were told that conflicts can be positive if properly managed and negative if not properly managed which can result to violence and management of conflicts relies solidly on journalist reportage.

Furthermore, journalists were advised to engage in investigative journalism so as to avoid reporting half baked news which are mostly bias news and such results to serious conflicts .

Stakeholders in attendance were; Plateau State commissioner of police, Austine Agbonlahor ably represented by the Deputy commissioner of Police, Plateau state STF Commander, Major General Augustine Agundu who was represented by Deputy Commander STF Jos, Human Rights Commission, The DG Plateau Peace Building Agency, Mr Joseph Lengmang, Mrs Olutoyin Falade programs manager, Mr Austin Onuoha a consultant and trainer and many others from the agency and other sister agencies.
