It is no longer news that the world is in deep trouble, what with the outbreak of the virus called coronavirus. Everywhere around the globe, nations are working round the clock to save the human race from being wiped out. The medical world has been stretched beyond limits to ensure that things are brought to normal. That is what we all want; yet the more they try, each part seems to be affected with thicker consistency.
As a result of the intensity of the losses made; no wonder the World Health Organization had rightly termed it a pandemic without a second thought. It went out of control as soon as it was released unto the earth. There have been numerous outbreaks of dangerous plagues across the world; which claimed scores of lives, but this time around, the Covid-19 no doubt, clearly has brought the world on its knees. It is sweeping the world with such intense ferocity, taking lives as if such does not mean anything any longer.
More leaders across the globe appear to be concerned with the health of their people, so long as we know that it takes both the rich and the poor, the high and the low the virus leaves only sadness it its trail. That being the case, everywhere, in the land; there is fear and absolute agitation of what will happen next. Or rather, who will it take next? The virus does not discriminate, we are all at risk.
The world as at today is at a standstill; at a station we didn’t anticipate. It took the world unawares despite the warnings given by the Chinese medical doctor, Li Wenliang. Had they listened to him, perhaps, we may not have reached this stage. Everywhere, there is a lockdown or a near it. But above all, everywhere there is a discussion of more than two people, the likelihood is that it is about covid-19 and what they have heard was going on in Nigeria or outside.
It is in this regard that pharmaceutical companies are heels over one another trying to out-do one another to find a drug that can cure the virus. The World Health Organization has already said, no cure has been found yet, even as millions of dollars are daily being spent to get to the root of the cure of the disease. We will get somewhere, what with the concerns all over the globe, God helping us.
The social media became a laboratory of some sort. Apart from the panic each post brought, with each passing minute; it became clear that we are close to annihilation. As much as it became possible, everyone has since become an expert of some sort about what they posted. Anyone who posted anything was sure of it veracity and source, no minding the fact that they just copied and pasted for those who got anxious to read.
I am aware that traditional medicine men and women are not left out of the search for a cure. Everyone who doesn’t know anything about the health of people and how they could be healed are given different therapies that could be the antidote for healing the victims. The manner of concoction that we are told about are as outrageous as they make God laugh at us.
Covid-19 is a disease from the pit of hell. It is an invincible enemy, but the ‘God factor as important as it is will help you not to lose sight if; as whatever that cannot take God out, cannot take you’. From Wuhan where it all began, running across several countries, the fear has been enormous and confusing.
What difference does it make? We have since left God out of all this. I recall during the Passover Night at Global Flame Ministry this year, it was clear from what Apostle Danjuma Musa Gaksu said that evening of December 31, 2019; ‘it is a year of surprise to all. What more, it is a year for the battle of the souls of nations’. It is prophesy foretold.
At the outbreak of this disease, it was easy to imagine that it would soon be over, so long as it was only coming from the commercial city of Wuhan in China. Most people’s thoughts: China is a distance from us; and depending on where you are, one would always think it would take a time before it gets here.
But before long, the winds were rife with concrete details that we are all in danger of the epidemic and concrete measures are needed to stem the tide. Still at that, countries across the globe lightly treated the warning. In some countries, a lot of people have been thinking the stories are make-believe.
The Nigerian example has given the world concern. First, it was the WHO which gave government a pass mark for their preparations to contain the pandemic, yet Nigerians say the measures taken so far; were rather late in coming as the doors to the world should have been shut a long time it was discovered that the index case in Lagos was discovered.
Several of the cases here were from returnees, who were in Europe and other countries of the world. I am not sure if sure returnees knew they were sick, even if they showed signs of ill-health. But before long, given the seriousness, Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) took the bull by the horns, tracking all that came into contact with the sick persons. They showed tenacity and understanding of the fact that their assignments out there meant a lot for the soul of the country. There are still many who have refused to show up; this shows we are all at risk.
Their activities are paying off, despite the difficulties for lack of a comprehensive database for its citizens. That should prove a hard nut to crack for those involved in tracking all contacts, but it should wake our government to reality.
It is always in adversity that the Nigerian mind is poised to cheat; otherwise, what would we say at this moment when buyers of any item for that matter are cheated at the slightest opportunity. Pray tell me, why an item that used to be 50naira is sold ten times above what used to be obtained the next few hours after?
But above it all, it became frustrating at some point that the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari had to write both heads of the National Assembly on returnee members who had defied all measures put at the airport for the examination. Hardly had he written that letter than, the man who wanted to set things right was confirmed a having tested positive.
Nigerians are quick to point to the fact that the pandemic is targeted at the rich. Corrosive lie number one! I however agree on the note that government had neglected the health sector. Trust Nigerians, they were quick to add that covid-19 was a subtle way of assisting EFCC fight corruption.
Lagos State gave the best shot at attacking the issue just as it was during the Ebola outbreak in 2014. Before long, we have seen states reel out action plans and measures that would stem the tide.
There were a number of posts that captures the essence of what we should do in situations like these, apart from the instructions from medical personnel: The one that should interest us most is (if it is true) by Bill Gates:
It is reminding us that we are all equal, regardless of our culture, religion, occupation, financial situation or how famous we are. This disease treats us all equally, perhaps we should too. If you don’t believe me, just ask Tom Hanks.

It is reminding us that we are all connected and something that affects one person has an effect on another. It is reminding us that the false borders that we have put up have little value as this virus does not need a passport. It is reminding us, by oppressing us for a short time, of those in this world whose whole life is spent in oppression.

It is reminding us of how precious our health is and how we have moved to neglect it through eating nutrient poor manufactured food and drinking water that is contaminated with chemicals upon chemicals. If we don’t look after our health, we will, of course, get sick.

It is reminding us that the power of freewill is in our hands. We can choose to cooperate and help each other, to share, to give, to help and to support each other or we can choose to be selfish, to hoard, to look after only our self. Indeed, it is difficulties that bring out our true colors.

It is reminding us that after every difficulty, there is always ease. Life is cyclical, and this is just a phase in this great cycle. We do not need to panic; this too shall pass. Whereas many see the Corona/ Covid-19 virus as a great disaster, I prefer to see it as a *great corrector*.
