Radio broadcasting in Plateau State started in 1953 as a Booster Station of Radio Nigeria,Lagos. Radio Nigeria,Lagos was itself a relay station to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), London. The aim at the time was to propagate programmes originating from the Colonial Government in Britain to its overseas Administrators and subjects in Nigeria.
Television in Plateau State started in 1974 on the other hand, when the State was still part of the Benue-Plateau State. It was the then Military Governor of Benue-Plateau ,a Police Commissioner,Joseph Dechi Gomwalk of blessed memory who saw the need to establish a Television station, Benue-Plateau Television (BPTV) which became the first television station in West Africa to transmit its programmes in colour alongside the Radio station. From 1982,a new era of Radio and Television Broadcasting set in with Plateau Television (PTV) and Plateau Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) operating independently until in 1985,during the Military regime of Naval Captain Samuel Bitrus Atukum through Edict No. of 1986,merged Plateau Television & Plateau Broadcasting Corporation and renamed it Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC), with corporate Headquarters at No.5 JD Gomwalk Road,Jos.
February 23,2014 the Daily Trust (Abuja) captioned 'Nigeria: Analogue - Digital Switchover -Plateau Radio/TV Scores Another Highpoint'.
...Plateau State set the stage of movement as the first to switch from analog to digital television broadcast in Nigeria...
To whom much is given, much is expected. The ability of the Plateau Radio Television Corporation to perform at its peak has been inconsistent,as a Corporation that has led in becoming the first television station in West Africa to transmit its programmes in colour and the first television station to lead in Analogue - Digital Switchover in Nigeria in comparism to its present reality speaks opposite of itself. Not to start with the quality of screen display is most often  poor, poor audibility running for more than 24 hours without its quick rectification thus the increasing disinterest in the station's programmings and the eventual loss of dependability of which a Media particularly a Government owned is supposed to garner for itself. The private media in the State on the other hand, have optimally utilised such to be to prompt and offer qualitative service to their increasing audience. Giving the news as it breaks.
The most recent is,as the news of the Index case of the COVID-19 in Plateau State went viral on Thursday evening 23, there were calls and concerns as to ascertain the veracity of such rumor, persons who decided to stay tuned to 'Plateau Round Up' on the radio arm and 'News @ 10' on the Tv arm went to bed heartbroken. Only for it to be said in the 06am news on Friday 24,that the report of the first confirmed case in the State got in by 02:00am that morning.
PRTVC should be at a point where we should expect them to have Stations in Lagos and Abuja where live coverings of key occasions even at the Villa should be targetted and not to be discussing delays in Breaking news, audibility, visibility or  technical issues/faults as claimed.
The General Manager of PRTVC,Chief Jeftha Jackden should rise to the occassion to set the Corporation on a pedestal. By consistently being prompt in their reportage and greatly improving the quality of Service, the Corporation will stand out to be reliable to the audience thus, gaining more grounds. The Management of PRTVC should come to terms with the fact that, this piece is not meant to disparage their efforts as that is the true situation of things but to bring out the best out of the Corporation. As the success of the Corporation is the success of Plateau and nothing will be allowed to temper with that.

God Bless Plateau State.
God bless Nigeria.
