The Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo, FUHSO, Prof Innocent Ujah has confirmed that the school would begin academic activities from October, 2020.

Prof Ujah made this disclosure when he paid a courtesy visit to Och'Idoma, HRH Agabaidu Elias Ikoyi Obekpa in his palace in Otukpo on Tuesday, saying all the necessary requirements for commencement of academic session have been met.

Prof Ujah who doubles as the National President, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA thanked President Buhari for the establishment of the university which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, promising that with all the necessary supports, the school would be the academic centre for Health Sciences in West Africa and would play a pivotal role in reducing the challenges faced by health sector in Benue state particularly and Nigeria generally.

Prof Ujah also thanked the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom for his support and prompt release of the state owned General Hospital Otukpo which would be used as the University Teaching Hospital for the time being.

In his response, the Paramount ruler of Idoma land, HRH Agaba'Idu Ikoyi Obekpa thanked Prof Innocent Ujah for his visit despite his tight schedules. He showered loyal blessings on Ujah and prayed to God in His infinite mercy to protect and guide him in order to take the university to an enviable height.

 Agaba'Idu Ikoyi Obekpa also appreciated President Buhari for granting approval for the establishment of the institution, saying it was a dream-come-true.

 Chief Obekpa also paid gloving tribute to Gov Ortom, Sen David Mark, Sen Abba Moro, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Arc Sunny Echono and all those who played vital roles leading to the establishment of the university.
