The Management Committee Chairman of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Council of Plateau State, Hon. Barrister Ezekiel Mandyau, has pledged to make security of lives and properties one of his priorities. He said this during a security consultative meeting with the Traditional Council and Relevant stakeholders of Fan District which was held at COCIN Loh-Fan on Saturday. The Chairman who was accompanied by his Secretary, Hon. Captain Rwang Dusu, the DPO Barkin-Ladi, Sector 4 Commander, D.O NSCDC and a few personal aides. The Chairman appreciated the people for the turnout and made it very clear that security was his priority in his approach to improving the welfare of his people. He noted this was premised on the well-known fact that no area developed without a robust security system that will guarantee the safety of lives and properties of the people. Mandyau thanked God, the Security personnels and the Barkin-Ladi people for the support he has enjoin in his seven months of office which has yeilded relative peace in the entire Local Government Area. The Chairman said, as part of his administration resolve to prioritize security, the Council has profiled and subsequently engaged 50 indiginous personnel from the local security outfits which included the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Neighborhood watch, Operation Rainbow as well as Community Police to assist the STF in curbing crime in Gashish District of Barkin-Ladi LGC. Raising from the positive results the initiative is recording in Gashish District, it has become necessary for the Council to replicate such same in Fan District as plans has been concluded to engage another 50 indigenous personnel from the local security outfits to work with the Special Task Force in strengthening border patrol in other to curtail the activities of criminal elements and further rebuild public confidence in the activities of the STF.
The Chairman said, even though putting up and sustaining such structures in the Local Government Area could be enormous and costly, it was always worth it at the end. The DPO and the Sector four (4) Commander who responded separately said, the coming of Barrister Ezekiel Mandyau at a time like this, is Godsent as his support to the security in Barkin-Ladi cannot be underestimated. They noted their joy was based on the proactive disposition of the Chairman as indicated by his uncommon decision to interface with the people of Fan District in other to rub minds together as security is every man's business. On his part, the Gwom Rwei of Fan HRH Da Iliya Dashwei, appreciated the Chairmans visit and promise that the traditional Council and the entire Fan people are ready to support whatever initiative deployed by Government that will enhance the protection of lives and properties of it's people. He was particularly delighted that the Chairman had chosen to interface with the traditional institution, BECO, BYM, BWEDA and other stakeholders to consult on security strategies in the District. You will recall that Barkin-Ladi has had it's own share of pockets of violence in the passed as inherited by the Barrister Ezekiel Mandyau's administration, it's now a cheering news that God's grace upon the servant leader, the Mandyau administration has effectively management the situation as no such ugly incidences has been recorded since his assumption of office Oct, 2019.
