Violent conflict erupted in some parts of Jos resulting in the destruction of lives and properties after the peaceful protest by #endsars was hijacked by hodlums. Alongside the destruction of lives and private properties, worship centers were also destroyed.
Leading a team to monitor the level of damage at the Redeem Church of God, Victory Parish Bukuru, the Management Committee Chairman of Jos South LGC Hon. Dachung Yohanna Choji expressed worry at the level of looting and damage. While commesorating with the leadership of the Church, the chairman assured that Government will leave nothing to chance in ensuring that those behind the act are brought to book.
"No any true religion man will do this. From my observations, the people that did this are hodlums. We want to assure the people of Jos South, the Church and the entire people affected by the violence that; Government will not sleep unless we are going to search till we find those people and prosecute them accordingly.
I also want to use this medium to advice the people of Jos South to channel our strength to do that which is good.
I wany to equally appreciate the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong for his prompt response at the wake of the ugly incident. The Governor immediately came to our Local Government Area to see things for himself" - Hon. Dachung said.
Speaking on the development, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria Plateau State chapter Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo described the situation as unfortunate. Fr. Lubo cautioned the youths not to allow themselves to be use by conflict merchants who are bent on returning the State to it's dark days.
Giving first hand information on the incident, the Region Pastor Christopher Oni said, the hodlums forced their way into the church premises looting church properties and set cars and the church building ablaze.
Pastor Oni enumerated materials and equipments carted away by the hodlums to include; twelve (12) television sets, twenty (20) speakers, Eight (8) Laptops among other valuables.
The team also visited a mosque burnt down at Bukuru to assess the level of damage.
Appreciating the team for the show of solidarity, the JNI Chairman Jos South LGA represented by Aliyu Musa said, the Muslim community will continue to work with Government to ensure that total peace is achieve in the State.
