Senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly  Professor Nora Ladi  Dadu'ut   has been a bastion of hope for her constituents since she was sworn in as Senator  on the 15 December  2020 .



It could be recalled that after winning the Plateau South Senatorial bye-election   conducted on the 5th of December 2020 ,the President  of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan  swore in Professor Nora Ladi Dabu’t, and other Senators  on the 15th of December 2020 .


Those sworn along with Prof Nora as Senators includes  the immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson,   Bayelsa West , Cleopas Moses, Bayelsa Central; and  Michael Adetokunbo Abiru, , APC, Lagos East .


The new Senators were sworn in   exactly 11:04am shortly after the commencement of plenary on  December 15 2020 .


The oath of office and allegiance were administered on the Senators by the Clerk of the Senate, Ibrahim El- Ladan  during plenary.




On assumption of office at the red chambers ,Professor Nora  has remained focused, firm, unwavering and has endeared herself  to the good people of Plateau South   within this 100 days as Senator despite  misconceptions and campaign of calumny being peddled by fifth columnist.


As the Senator gets set to mark her  100 days in office, it is gladdening to know that the perception index about her  has moved from slow to speed lane as she recently   empowered and provided grants to over 200  youths and women of her constituency .


She has  also strived to ensure that Plateau South is carried along in governance .


Senator    Dadu'ut  had  also on the floor of the Senate     stressed the need    for an improved standard of living for women and the elderly  in the society .


Supporting  a motion raised by 

Senator Betty Apiafi at  the plenary recently ,she said that women deserve to be  celebrated always .


Senator Betty Apiafi had  cited Order 42 and 52 to seek the leave of the Senate to move a Motion on the 2021 International Women’s Day which was celebrated on March 8th, 2021.


 

Prof Nora who  supported the motion   said  "Indeed, I am glad that Senator Betty Apiafi  moved this motion and it is very much relevant .


She said the woman in her role has three specific and defined assignment in her role as a mother or as a daughter, in the public cycle and within her own cycle. 


"As a mother, she plays other roles including the roles that are assigned to her by the man."


" At the centre of it all, it is the woman and the child that suffers in this pandemic world. "In this case, I want to make my contribution that we the women need to partner with the men in order to increase our own part of the contribution to be able to overcome the various challenges that we are facing. "


Senator Nora further  said  " I am proud to be a woman and I thank God for creating me a woman.”


Also speaking to newsmen in Jos recently  she decried low participation of women in politics saying that they deserve  more encouragement to participate in politics,  governance and public affairs in general without discrimination.


Senator Dadu'ut  said that women deserve  better opportunities in all sphere of human endeavours considering their contributions to the national development.


"Women are hardworking, pillar of their families, good managers and formidable allies and great mobilizers when it comes to politics. We therefore deserve more recognition in Nigeria than what we are experiencing presently.I am proud of women of Plateau especially those from my constituency Plateau South ."


 "Women deserve more opportunities in politics. Our women also deserve support and encouragement to participate without discrimination in governance and public affairs in general" She said.


Professor Dadu'ut who has been an advocate of women participation in politics further added that the State of women's political participation in Nigeria remains low with handful of women in the parliament adding that there are quite a lot of women across Nigeria that can do much better than what the country is experiencing now if given more  opportunities to demonstrate their commitment. 



The Senator representing Plateau South  further promised to continue to  promote and defend the rights and interests of the Nigerian women and fight anything that would stand against their wellbeing and aspirations while in the senate .


She also vowed to empower women and Youths of her Constituency  at all times .


Speaking to our correspondent on her 100 days in office  Alhaji Nagelu Garba a citizen of Plateau south from Shendam LGA,  said he   was a supporter of Senator Nora by conviction and not convenience. , Nagelu an APC stalwart said  that he knew the Senator’s antecedents since  she  was  in the University  and he would proudly say  she has done well since she got sworn in as Senator .


"We commend her for her quality legislative representation  and her efforts at empowering women , we would continue to support her and ensure she succeeds ,he added ."



Peter Riyal, another citizen of the zone from Mikang local government who spoke to our correspondent said " We are impressed with our Senator for the good works she has been doing in the senate ."

"Our Senator Prof Nora  has proven her critics wrong within a short time  ,he added ."




It could also be recalled that some  women  in Plateau South Senatorial district recently   extolled the leadership virtues of their Senator ,Professor Nora Ladi  Dadu'ut  for her support to them since she got elected to the National Assembly .



The group Specifically commended Senator Dadu'ut  for her efforts at empowering women in the zone .



The Group  operating under the aegis of Inspired women of Plateau South also  said in less than 100 days in office , the Senator has offered quality legislative representation and has done well in empowering youths and women in her   constituency .




The group in a statement signed by Juliana Nanjul  their spokesperson ,and made available to newsmen in Jos,  said "we would use this opportunity to thank our senator for the good works she has been doing in her constituency since she got elected ."


They lauded the Senator  for her  courage, patriotism and commitment to nation building as well as her quest to better the wellbeing  of women and youths in her constituency .



The statement reads that "We have noticed your quest to  improve the   standard of living of women and the aged  in the society ."



"Prof Nora  who is the first female Senator from Plateau state  has so far proven that she is  delivering her campaign promises ."


We are confident that  you would work for the betterment of our Senatorial zone , Plateau and Nigeria in General ."







They  called on people of the zone to rally round Prof Nora and ensure that she excels as senator of the zone .



Stephen Nkat  a citizen of the zone  lauded  Senator Nora for her  empowerment program she is spearheading in Plateau south , describing the Senator as “a true pillar of support to the downtrodden masses especially in this era of great financial challenges to the generality of the people.”

In a chat with our correspondent  in Jos Nkat said “Senator Dadu'ut empowerment program directed at women is a clear indication of her  uncontestable concern for the downtrodden and love for her  people.”


 "Senator Nora  has always  displayed her  commitment to the welfare of the masses ."




Speaking recently while  receiving  Members of Goemai Unity and Development Organisations (GUDO) FCT Branch led by its leader Dr. Albert Kelong on a courtesy visit to Professor Nora Ladi Dadu'ut , she assured them of her commitment to deliver on the dividends of democracy to the good people of Plateau South Senatorial District as well as making the voice of the Senatorial District heard through sponsorship of bills that will positively impact on the livelihood of the masses.
