Hearing in the case between the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and former Governor of Plateau State Senator Jonah  Jang could not continued on Tuesday due to the absence of Prosecution Counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN).

Jang and Yusuf Pam are standings trial on a 12-count charge of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds to the tune of N6.3billion.

The EFCC alleged that Jang, who served as Plateau Governor between 2007 and 2015, misappropriated the said amount two months to the end of his tenure as Governor through Pam, who was a cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) within the period.

Alleged N6.3billion Fraud: Case between EFCC and Jang adjourned to November 2021

The trial commenced at High Court 4 Presided over by His Lordship, Justice Christene Dabup after the retirement of former trial Judge, (Justice Daniel Longji) from service on December 31, 2019.

However, Justice Longji before his retirement,  ruled and dismissed the “No case submission” entered by the defendants (after the Prosecution closed their case) and held that the defendants have a case to answer.

When the matter came up on Tuesday,  S. E Okene told the court that the cancellation of flight from Lagos to Jos was the reason the absence of the lead counsel for the Prosecution Rotimi Jacobs SAN in court for continuation of hearing of the matter. Consequently, he made oral application for an adjournment.

Counsel for the defendants Edward Pwajok SAN did not oppose the application for adjournment but asked the court to take judicial notice of the fact that all the adjournments since the commencement of hearing of the matter have been at the instance of the Prosecution.

Having not opposed the oral application for adjournment, the matter was adjourned to 24, 25 and 26 of  November, 2021 for continuation of hearing.
