Barr. Jonathan Yusufu Pam,  former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Jos Chapter and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Plateau State between 2002 and 2004 has called for the suspension of the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Plateau State to avoid break down of law and order.

He also urged the APC led administration in Plateau state under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Dr Simon Bako Lalong to convene a forum for political dialogue in the state as soon as possible and ensure that a level playing ground is created for all political parties.

He believes that a political dialogue is necessary at this point to foster unity and bring about social cohesion in Plateau State.

Speaking to newsmen in Jos recently, the legal luminary posited that there is a dark cloud looming over the state which requires unity of purpose of all and sundry to salvage the state.

According to him, "to avert the looming break down of law and order, the Plateau State Government should as a matter of urgency suspend the forthcoming LG elections (especially for Jos North); review the decision to exclude other political parties from the election; reinforce the security architecture, and implement strategies for a permanent and effective resolution of the perennial socio-political turbulence on the Plateau".

Barrister Pam is a renowned peace-builder,  human-rights activist and leading civil society advocate. He was instrumental in the convening of the internationally acclaimed Plateau Peace Conference which restored peace and stability to the State in 2004.
