History has been made on the Plateau as Jos North Local Government Area held maiden Armed Forces remembrance day 2024 celebration.

Recall, 15th January each year is slated nationwide to commemorate the efforts of servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and to also honours fallen heroes of 1st and 2nd World War as well as the Nigerian Civil War.

Speaking at the maiden celebration on Monday in Jos the Plateau State capital,  Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Jos North, Hon.Samuel Dala Umaru revealed that the remembrance ceremony of fallen heroes was the first of its kind in the annals of the local council.

"Indeed, their participation in the first and second world wars, Nigerian civil war and different other peace keeping operations and missions within and outside the country, cannot be forgotten in a hurry, and posterity will forever be kind to them for such efforts in the past."

The TIC expressed disgust that, "it is unfortunate to note that in the cause of defending the Nation, many of them paid a supreme price and lost their lives, leaving behind widows and orphans at the mercy of God, while many of them became blind, deaf, dumb, maimed as well as living with various traumatic experiences and one physical challenge or the other.

"The plight of these veterans and their families no doubt calls for concern and help from all well meaning individuals, philanthropists and corporate bodies, in order to ameliorate their suffering and make life more meaningful for them to live.

"Today's occasion calls for sober reflection and concerted efforts from all and sundry to cater for the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes, ex-servicemen and their families, as a way of showing appreciation to them for their sacrifices to the Nation, and as a mark of honour to them", he stated.

The TIC Chairman who emphasized the need for peace and harmonious coexistence in Jos North devoid of religion and ethnicity, said is ready to navigate on Governor Caleb Mutfwang's " Time Is Now Mantra".

"The local administration under in Jos North Local Government under my leadership has keyed into the philosophy of the Time Is Now agenda of the executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, in promoting peaceful coexistence, unity and security of the people. This we will continue to do to the best of our ability, and will stop at nothing until that is achieved and ensure our people get the needed dividends of democracy."

He also appealed to youths to disassociate themselves from any form of social vices that demystify their future.

The TIC chairman went ahead to launched the Armed Forces Remembrance day 2024 emblem with the whooping sum of five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000,00).
