Accessible and Equitable Justice for Women and Youth project (AEJ-WAY), a Community-Based Organisation in Mangu LGA, has organised a maiden townhall for candidates of various political panties contesting for the chairmanship position of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau 


The meeting held on Thursday in Mangu, was in collaboration with the Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Pankshin  and the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN) 

The project is being funded by Catholic Agency for Oversea Development (CAFOD).

Other organisation that supported the activity include, Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

Speaking at the event, Mrs Rashida Riiwanu, Chairperson of the group, said that the activity aimed at ensuring a peaceful polls in the locality.

She also explained that the move aimed at providing a veritable platform for ghe candidates to present their manifestoes to the people.

She said that Mangu has had it fair share of conflict violence in recent times, hence the need for the candidates to exchew all forms of bitterness and toe the path of peace.


''We have organised this townhall to provide a platform for the chairmanship candidates to present their manifestoes.

''We are not here to police them, but to allow tell us what they will do of elected.

''On the other hand, we are seizing this opportunity to also appeal to them to be peaceful as they go about their electioneering campaigns

''Similarly,  we want these candidates to Mangu people their plans for women and youths, particularly in including these category of persons in public decision if elected,''she said.

Riiwanu, who thanked all those that supprted the activity, disclosed that the townhall was  first of its kind in the history of Mangu.

Mr Abednego Yale, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart,  Bala Mwolpun, attended the event.
