A group, AEJ-WAY Community-Based Organisation, has organised a townhall meeting for all candidates jostling for the chairmanship seat of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau

The meeting, held on Wednesday in Mangu, was in collaboration with the Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Pankshin.

Other organisations that supported the activity were the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

Speaking at the event, Mrs Rashida Riiwanu, Chairperson of the group, said that the townhall aimed at ensuring a rancour free polls in the locality.

She added that the move had provided platform for the candidates to present their manifestoes to the people.

She explained that Mangu in recent times had its fair share of violent conflict, hence the need for the candidates to exchew all forms of bitterness and toe the path of peace and tranquility.

”We organised this townhall to provide a platform for all the candidates to present their manifestoes to the people.

”This will make them tell us what they will do if elected.

”On the other hand, it will enable the people to make suggestions that will bring about meaningful development and sustainable growth in Mangu.

”We want to also appeal to them to be peaceful as they go about their electioneering campaigns,”she appealed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Abednego Yale, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Mr Bala Mwolpun, attended the event.
