In a significant move aimed at tackling the growing challenge of youth unemployment in Nigeria, Comrade Ugochukwu Syvester Emeana, National Director of the Unemployed Youths Association of Nigeria (UYAN), visited the headquarters of the African Union Agenda 2063 headquarters in Abuja. During the meeting with key officials, including the Head of Mission, Ambassador Ben Joel Stephen, Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Kingsley Okpara, and Ambassador Felix Arume, Comrade Emeana discussed pressing issues concerning the unemployment crisis in Nigeria. This crucial dialogue led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a partnership focused on empowering Nigerian youths through various training initiatives.
One of the first programs to be launched as a result of this collaboration is a series of specialized training sessions aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with skills in solar and renewable energy which will be held at the ladi kwali hall transcorp Hilton Abuja. This initiative is designed to create a sustainable impact, enabling young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s energy sector while addressing both unemployment and environmental challenges.
Ambassador Ben Joel Stephen expressed immense gratitude to Comrade Emeana for his relentless commitment to the cause of Nigerian youths. He praised Emeana for his tireless advocacy, stating, “We are deeply honored by Comrade Emeana’s visit and his consistent efforts to improve the lives of Nigerian youths. This partnership is a monumental step toward addressing the critical issues of unemployment. We are committed to supporting this initiative and ensuring that Nigerian youths are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive global economy.”
Ambassador Kingsley Okpara, in his goodwill message, also emphasized the importance of partnerships like this one in driving sustainable change. “The challenges facing Nigerian youths are significant, but through strategic partnerships with organizations like UYAN, we are creating opportunities for real transformation. This initiative will empower the youth and provide them with practical, marketable skills that will enable them to become leaders in the renewable energy sector,” Ambassador Okpara remarked.
Similarly, Ambassador Felix Arume expressed his optimism for the future of the partnership, highlighting the long-term benefits for Nigerian youths. “By focusing on solar and renewable energy, we are not just providing immediate employment opportunities but also positioning Nigerian youths at the forefront of the global transition to cleaner energy. This is an investment in the future of Nigeria and the entire African continent,” Ambassador Arume said.
The partnership between UYAN and the African Union Agenda 2063 represents a key step toward achieving the goals of Agenda 2063, particularly in the areas of economic transformation and youth empowerment. By focusing on renewable energy training, the partnership aims to create sustainable jobs and foster a generation of youth who are capable of leading the charge in Africa’s renewable energy revolution.
Comrade Emeana expressed his excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing that the training programs would be a game-changer for the unemployed youths of Nigeria. “This partnership marks the beginning of a new era for Nigerian youths. We are not just focusing on skills development but also on fostering a mindset of entrepreneurship and innovation.
