In a bold show of solidarity, the Forum of Ethnic Youth Leadership in Nigeria today held a press conference at the Azi Nyako Youth Centre, fiercely defending Major General A.E. Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai and former Commandant of Operation Safe Haven, Jos, against what they described as “malicious and baseless allegations.”

Addressing journalists, the group condemned an anonymous Nigerian Army officer who reportedly accused General Abubakar of abandoning conflict-ridden communities while selectively implementing development projects for favored groups. The forum called the allegations “defamatory and detrimental” to the integrity of Nigeria’s military and the hard-earned reputation of one of its most decorated commanders.

“Ordinarily, we wouldn’t respond to faceless claims,” declared Sadiq Kwaltommai, Forum President and National Youth Leader of the Bogghom ethnic group, “but this attempt to discredit a patriot who has risked his life for Nigeria's peace cannot go unanswered.”

The group highlighted General Abubakar’s record in combating terrorism and addressing root causes of violence in Plateau State and other flashpoints in the North. Under his leadership, Operation Safe Haven carried out successful raids on terrorist cells, rescued hostages, and delivered critical infrastructure, including schools, clinics, and boreholes, across diverse and often volatile communities.

“Contrary to the narrative of favoritism,” said Okenna Patrick Chukwuma, the Forum Secretary, “General Abubakar’s tenure has been marked by inclusive development. His leadership built bridges of trust and peace, not walls of division.”

They also credited the general with championing non-combat initiatives, including inter-LGA football tournaments, which they said played a key role in promoting unity and social cohesion across communities long divided by conflict.

The forum categorically dismissed claims that soldiers were being used as laborers on community projects. “The military’s role in nation-building is both constitutional and commendable,” emphasized Forum PRO, Abdullazeez Shehu Haji. “These projects are part of a broader security strategy, not a misuse of manpower.”

In a significant endorsement, the youth leaders passed a vote of confidence in General Abubakar’s leadership, praising his alignment with the peace and security vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They cited recent breakthroughs under his command, including the arrest of four Pakistani nationals allegedly involved in arms trafficking in the North East, as evidence of his effectiveness.

“We stand with Major General A.E. Abubakar,” Kwaltommai concluded. “Let no one distort the truth. This is a man who has delivered security, stability, and unity at great personal cost.”

As security challenges persist across Nigeria, today’s press briefing signals a growing willingness among grassroots voices to challenge disinformation and rally behind credible leadership, especially from within the country’s often-embattled military ranks.
