The Kaiser Foundation for Social Development (KFSD), has organised a summer camp to boost Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills among secondary schools students in Plateau.

Speaking at the end of the four-day exercise on Sunday in Jos, Miss Omodera Akinremi, the Programme Consultant for KFSD, said that the camp had participants from five public secondary schools in the state.

She explained that the exercise was organised in collaboration with the Hart Bankat Foundation and House of Purpose Africa, both Jos-based organisations.

Akinremi explained that the move aimed at bridging the knowledge gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among young Nigerians.

"This initiative has brought students from different schools, ranging from junior secondary three to senior secondary three to learn about STEM

"We discovered that there is a gap in the construction and the STEM world generally, so we organised this to encourage these students to pursue career in STEM related courses.

"Today, we are experiencing mass failure in STEM related courses, and we felt the need to put together a project that will raise the interest of students in these areas of study.

Akinremi said that the aim of the summer camp was achieved, judging from the students' excellent performance during the exercise.

The consultant, who said that participants were selected based on performance from their various schools, promised to mentor and support them to reach their full potential in life, particularly those of them from poor backgrounds.

Also speaking, Ms Nimdir Namsoh, the Executive Director of Hart Bankat foundation, described  exercise as highly impactful to the participants.

Namsoh, who is also the the Chief Executive Officer of House of Purpose Africa, said that the initiave had achieved targeted objectives.

"We have known about the this project happening in Lagos and other cities across Nigeria.

"Immediately we had our platform, we felt that it's time for our children, our students in Plateau to experience this very fantastic programme,"she said

Namsoh, who thanked KFSD for the support, promised to make the summer camp a yearly activity.
