The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Plateau State chapter, has embarked on peer review tour aimed at strengthening grassroot governance across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Our correspondent reports that the initiative is the first of its kind in Plateau since the inception of democratic dispensation.

The initiative is another giant step taken by the 17 council Chairmen whom were about to mark one year in office, gear towards fostering synergy, collaboration, and relationships amongst the executive, legislative arm and traditional rulers to enhance development at the grassroot level.
The historic moment offers an ample opportunity for the Chairmen to engage with the stakeholders and assess various projects initiated to better the wellbeing of the masses.

Chairman of ALGON,Plateau State chapter, Hon. Hamish Anani, chairman of Wase LGA, who led the entourage on Monday, said the visit is the creation of idea by the 17 Chairmen to undertake a pair review mechanism to interact with stakeholders and take a stock.

"We're going round the 17 LGA to see some of the projects erected in the councils secretariat and across various wards.
"The local government comprises of three segments; the Executive arm, the Legislative arm, and the traditional class, and all if put heads and work together Plateau will continue waxing stronger," Anani mentioned.

While appreciating governor Caleb Mutfwang's tremendous support, the ALGON chairman acknowledged that with the little resources coming their coffers they were able to do something and left lasting legacy. 

"We have to work together and protect the mandate bestow on us. Let's continued praying and supporting the government right from the ward level, local government, and the state ," he added.
Earlier, the Chairmen paid homage to paramount rulers in their palace before proceeding to engage other stakeholders, where they unveiled  rationale behind the visit.

The Long Gamai of Shendam, His Royal Majesty, Miskoom Martin Shaldas, Long Tehl of Mikang, acting Long Pan of Qua'anpan, HRH Miskoom Safiyanu Allahnana as well as other title holders while commending the Chairmen for coming together to champion such laudable synergy, promised that as custodians of people culture and traditions they will  continue to accord maximum support for the betterment of all governments in Plateau.

They also tasked Chairmen to prioritize security of lives and properties in their domain, saying, " the safety of communities lays in your hands, therefore, should constantly intensify a robust engagement with the traditional class, security agents and other stakeholders to enhance peace. 
The Councillors, appointees and other stakeholders applauded governor Mutfwang and Chairmen for the timely provision of fertiliser and other farm inputs this year, calling for more inclusive governance.

Our correspondent reports that the Chairmen tour Southern Plateau, and the LGA visited are; Qua'anpan, Shendam, Mikang, and Langtang South. The visitation continues tomorrow, Tuesday 26th August, 2025.
