Plateau State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment and dedication towards constructive youths action plan for sustainable development goals (SDGs), using artificial intelligence (AI) smarter business strategy.
The commissioner ministry of youth and sports development, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms made the disclosure during an interface with the youths to mark international youth day 2025 celebration on Tuesday in Jos.
The event tagged, " local youth actions for the SDGs and beyond", brought together thousands of Plateau youth across the 17 local government areas and network for better future.
Ashoms revealed the Sustainable Development Goals ending poverty, ensuring food security, promoting peace, and protecting the environment depend on local action, and our youth are leading the charge.
"In all the 17 LGAs of Plateau state, youth-led agricultural cooperatives are boosting food production and jobs. Young peace advocates prevent conflict through dialogue. Across schools and communities, youth are advancing business, mental health, environmental care, and gender equity. These efforts embody the Plateau spirit of resilience and ingenuity", Ashoms stated.
Acknowledging governor Mutfwang's transformative policies that empower and uplift young people in the state, the commissioner said, the he Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Program (P-YAEP) equips hundreds of youths for sustainable agribusiness, aligning with SDGs like ending hunger and promoting decent work. "Youth are also integrated into agricultural and peacebuilding systems as leaders, not just beneficiaries. We thank His Excellency the Executive Governor of Plateau state Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang again for these transformative, youth-friendly policies that fuel progress.
"To sustain this, we must move from symbolic gestures to structural support. Youth participation in decision-making must be genuine, as shown by our sponsorship of 20 Plateau youths to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies for leadership training, where they crafted a tourism policy for our state. Local councils must empower youth as planners, backed by funding, mentorship, and tools.
"Development demands collaboration. Governments must open doors, schools must teach problem-solving, businesses must partner, and youth must deliver solutions. The future is being built no on farms, in streets, and through apps created by youth ready to act", Ashoms added.
Special adviser to the governor on youths development, Hon. Hitler Joshua Pwajok confirmed that, "this year 2025 alone, over 1,000 hectares have been cultivated under the Back-to-Farm initiative. By next year, the target is to expand to 2,500 hectares, and by 2027, to about 3,500 hectares. Through agriculture, training, and mechanized farming, it is projected that between 15,000 and 20,000 youths will be empowered.
He also said the Mutfwang's administration is working the talk by fulfilling his campaign promises as he allocate 60% of appointments and other elective positions to young people.
"His Excellency had promised that 60% of youths in Plateau would be actively involved in governance—and he has kept that promise. Today, you can see for yourself that about 60% of leadership positions in ministries, agencies, parastatals, and other sectors are occupied by young people, including local government chairmen and councillors."
