The executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has described poverty and lack of unity of purpose as the number common enemy confronting diverse ethnic nationalities in the state.
Governor Mutfwang who was speaking at the Bit-Gamai 2025 festival of arts, culture and exhibition of the Gamai nation, emphasized the importance of unity and development in the Gamai land, saying "it is a melting pot for people from various parts of Plateau State."
He praised the Gamai people for their hospitality and welcoming nature, which has made Shendam a centre of commerce and agriculture.
The Governor urged Gamai Nation to continue promoting unity among Plateau State's diverse communities.
He promised the completion of the ongoing road projects and plans to bring water to Southern Plateau, particularly Shendam.
According to him, "the government aims to boost agriculture, making Shendam's products exportable and benefiting the local economy, plans to develop the Federal Polytechnic, Nyak Shendam, and complete the renovation of Shendam General Hospital."
Governor Mutfwang also revealed plans to make a political move that will unite Plateau State, focusing on fighting poverty and ensuring peace and prosperity for all in the state.
The immediate past Governor and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong who underscored the significance of cultural heritage, revealed there is a pending bill before the 10th Senate aimed to upgrade the status of traditional rulers in Nigeria.
President Gamai Unity and development Organisation (GUDO), Dr. Albert Kelong Alkali said they have recorded a tremendous achievements as they are building an Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub which about 80% completion to equip their teeming youths with requisite technological skills.
He also confirmed the setting of cooperative society to be assisting farmers with agricultural inputs, appealed to governor Mutfwang for the reactivation of agriculture centre which is moribund for decades.
The paramount ruler, Long-Gamai of Gamai Nation, His Royal Majesty, Miskoom Martin Sheldas III, acknowledged the Gamai nation has a long standing history as the Bit-Gamai cultural festival was first celebrated in 1981 which is oldest in Plateau history.
