A massive crowd of supporters and stakeholders from the four districts of Mikang Local Government Area gathered in Tunkus to endorse the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang for another term in office.
The endorsement was moved by former Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly during the 6th and 7th Assemblies, Hon. Dio Lamun, and seconded by former Commissioner for Education, Joseph Mairiga, amid loud cheers and unanimous support from the crowd.
Hon. Dio Lamul, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, said the endorsement reflected the true position of the people at the grassroots, stressing that the citizens of Mikang remain solidly behind the Speaker and Governor due to their commitment to development, unity, and inclusive leadership.
He said: “Mikang citizens stand with the truth, and that truth is development, unity, and progress, not personal calculation for selfish gain.”
According to him, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel has continued to demonstrate quality representation and dedication to the progress of Mikang Local Government Area, while Governor Caleb Mutfwang has displayed strong commitment towards peace, good governance, and development of Plateau State.
On his part, former Commissioner for Education, Joseph Mairiga, said the people of Koenoem District are fully committed to giving an overwhelming vote in support of Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel.
He said: “The people of Koenoem District remain focused, united, and forward-looking in their support for the Speaker. We are committed to continuity, development, and progress for Mikang Local Government Area.”
Speaking during the gathering, the National President of the Tehl Development Association at home and in the diaspora, Longvel Linus Mentel, stated that the Tehl Nation believes strongly in growth and sustainable development, describing Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel as the right choice to continue providing purposeful leadership for the people.
He stated that : “My people will stand with growth and development in our domain, and Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel is the answer.”
Also speaking, the first Executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council, Dauda Bretet, alongside Benjamin Peter from Garkawa District, both expressed total support for the endorsement of the Speaker and Governor, noting that their leadership has brought visible progress and renewed hope to the people.
The former chairman further clarified issues surrounding the recent stakeholders’ meeting in Mikang, explaining that stakeholders unanimously agreed that discussions on zoning should be suspended until after the 2027 general elections.
According to him, zoning arrangements in Mikang have not always been respected, as aspirants from different districts have consistently participated in elections, adding that the people are more interested in competence, unity, and development rather than division.
Other speakers at the event included various youth and women groups from across the four districts of Mikang Local Government Area, who unanimously expressed support for Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel and Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
The groups commended the Speaker for his leadership style, accessibility, and commitment to grassroots development, while also appreciating Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his developmental strides and commitment to peace and good governance in Plateau State.
Speaking on behalf of the women and former member of the Judicial Service Commission, Hon. Irene Piental commended the massive turnout and unity of the people at the Tunkus gathering, declaring that women in Mikang fully align with the collective decision to support Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel and Governor Caleb Mutfwang for another term in office, noting that their leadership has continued to promote development, peace, and stability at the grassroots.
The event also witnessed a massive turnout of supporters in Tunkus, as citizens from different Communities and districts arrived in large numbers carrying various banners and inscriptions in support of the two leaders.
Some of the inscriptions displayed at the rally read: “Mikang Endorses Naanlong and Governor Caleb Mutfwang for a Better Plateau,” “Youths Say Naanlong,” “We Stand With Naanlong,” “The Speaker is Our Choice for Another Term,” and “We Will Deliver Naanlong/Mutfwang in 2027,” among several others.
The colourful display and overwhelming turnout of citizens further demonstrated the growing grassroots support for the Speaker and Governor Caleb Mutfwang ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering ended with a renewed call for unity, peace, and sustained development in Mikang Local Government Area and Plateau State at large.
