A new President of the Gamai Youth Movement, GYM has emerged.

He is Livinus Adi Langkwap from Kwo Chiefdom who was sworned in following his unanimous endorsement by delegates of the Long Japsual of the Goemai Nation.

The new GYM President took the oath of office at the Shendam Youth Centre, where members of the executive and other stakeholders implored him to work assiduously to unite the Gamai youth, promote reconciliation and provide inclusive leadership that will advance the interests of the youth.

The emergence of Langkwap followed the implementation of the recommendations of the investigative panel headed by the former Head of the Plateau State Civil Service, Miskoom Camillus Tsemwan.

The panel was constituted by the Gamai Unity and Development Organisation GUDO on the directive of the Long Goemai of the Gamai Nation, Miskoom Martin Shaldas III, after a petition submitted by the Long Japsual against the then President of the  GYM, Dominic Gani Saje, over allegations of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.

After its investigation, the panel submitted its findings and recommended the expulsion of Dominic Gani Saje from the leadership of the Gamai Youth Movement, leading to the process that produced the new leadership.

Administering the oath of office, Barrister Ali Zemlong, charged the new President to uphold the oath, demonstrate integrity and place the collective interest of the Gamai youth above personal considerations.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Julius Attahiru, formally certified Livinus Adi Langkwap as the duly elected President, following his unanimous endorsement by the delegates.

Speaking after taking the oath, Langkwap pledged to unite the Gamai youth and work closely with the GUDO, the Gamai Traditional Council and all relevant stakeholders to promote peace, unity and development.

He assured the people that he would justify the confidence reposed in him, promising to run an inclusive administration where every Gamai youth would have a sense of belonging and an opportunity to contribute to the progress of the movement.

Vice President one of the Gamai Youth Movement, Eric Tanko, who stepped down from the contest in favour of Langkwap, pledged to rally round the new President and give him the necessary support to enable him succeed.

Tanko called on members of the movement to close ranks, put aside personal differences and work collectively with the new leadership for the unity and progress of the Gamai youth.

The Electoral Committee and members of the Long Japsual subsequently presented the new GYM President to the Long Goemai of the Gamai Nation at the palace.

Receiving him on behalf of the Long Goemai, the Kanai
Long Gamai, Miskoom Alfred Shaldas, commended the Gamai youth for conducting a peaceful bye-election.

The Kanai Long Gamai, alongside members of the Shendam Traditional Council, called on the new President to embrace all the youth and members of his executive, stressing the need for inclusiveness, reconciliation and collective responsibility.

The Shendam Traditional Council also gave its blessings to the new President and expressed optimism that his administration would transform the Gamai Youth Movement into a model organisation.

The ceremony was further enlivened by a colourful display from the Gamai Masquerade group from Poeship, which danced with the new President before escorting him to the palace of the Long Goemai.

The peaceful transition is expected to usher in a new chapter for the Gamai Youth Movement, with stakeholders urging the new administration to sustain the spirit of unity, reconciliation and collective action for the advancement of the Gamai youth and the Gamai Nation.
