Meanwhile, the Plateau State House of Assembly has decried the recent killings and destruction of property in Communities across Mangu Local Government Area, calling for urgent security measures to prevent further loss of lives and restore peace in the affected areas.
The concern followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by the Member representing Mangu South Constituency, Hon. Matthew Kwarpo, during Tuesday’s plenary over attacks on Bin Per Community in Bwai District, as well as Jwak and Murish Communities in Mangu Halle District.
Kwarpo informed the House that the Communities came under attack by heavily armed individuals in the early hours of Monday, 17th August, 2026, resulting in the death of 25 persons in Bin Per, while one person was killed in Jwak and Murish, with several others sustaining injuries.
He further disclosed that 38 houses were burnt, while several hectares of farmlands, stored grains and other valuables were destroyed, leaving the affected communities in severe hardship and threatening their means of livelihood.
The lawmaker said the situation was particularly worrisome as the attacks had already infiltrated other communities, warning that the development could further undermine the security of Mangu Local Government Area and the State if not urgently addressed.
The House called for a collaborative approach involving security agencies, government authorities, Community leaders and other stakeholders to address the situation and prevent further escalation of violence.
It also urged security agencies to adopt proactive measures to prevent attacks, particularly in vulnerable communities, while calling for concerted efforts to address underlying grievances and facilitate dialogue aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability.
The Assembly further called on the State Government, SEMA, spirited individuals and relevant humanitarian agencies to urgently come to the aid of the affected Communities with relief materials, food supplies, medical assistance and other necessary support, particularly in view of the destruction of houses, farmlands and stored grains.
As part of the resolutions, the House directed its Standing Committee on Labour and Security to visit the affected Communities, commiserate with the bereaved families and assess the extent of the destruction.
The Plateau State House of Assembly thereafter adopted the prayers contained in the matter, including the additional prayer mandating the Committee on Labour and Security to undertake the visit and report its findings to the House.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, appreciated members for their concern and contributions to the matter, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate security authorities.
He stressed the need for collective and coordinated efforts by security agencies, government authorities and the people to protect lives and property and prevent further attacks in Mangu Local Government Area.
