Family of slain UNIMAID student Wants to FG to apprehend their son’s killers
Family of a 200-Level student of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Mr Dalep Dachiya, who was killed by members of the Boko Haram sect, has urged the Federal Government to fish out the killers of their son.
The head of the family, Da David Dachiya, made the call on Thursday at a media briefing in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
He said such a move would bring succour to the bereaved family and others.
Dalep Dachiya, a native of Jing in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, was abducted on January 9, 2020, by insurgents on his way to Maiduguri to resume school.
Also, on January 21, 2020, the insurgents released a video showing where they executed Dalep Dachiya.
David Dachiya urged the government and security agents to intensify efforts at ending insurgency and other security challenges bedevilling the country.
“As a family, we just want to thank God for everything; we believe that what happened was for good,” he said.
“But we want to strongly call on the government to fish out the killers of our son. He was just an innocent boy who was killed for no reason.
“We equally urge the government to intensify efforts in fighting insurgency and all forms of insecurity in the country,” David Dachiya said.
Also, the National President of Mupun Cultural Development Association (MUCDA), Chief Pedro Dafur, said the association was saddened by the mindless killing of the junior Dachiya by those he called blood-thirsty individuals.
Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has expressed deep sadness over the video released by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), showing the execution of Dalep Dachiya, a student of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) held hostage by the terrorists.
In a statement made available in Jos to newsmen by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Makut Macham, also expressed outrage over the murder of the 22-year-old student of Biology Education of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
The governor described the killing of the student from the state as a heinous act aimed at provoking sentiments which could lead to perceived hatred for people based on religion and origin.
He said the narrative of the terrorists must never be allowed to fester and cause disharmony among Nigerians.
The governor noted that the ideology of Boko Haram was not only misplaced but clearly a merchandise of evil.
Lalong commiserated with the family of Dalep and assured them that the state government would support them in their period of great distress.
He said the state government would continue to work with security agencies and the Federal Government to ensure that those still in captivity of the sect were released while those behind the evil act were brought to justice.
Plateau House of Assembly Speaker Abok Ayuba on Thursday described the killing of Dalep Dachiya as evil, barbaric and inhuman.
In a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Bulus Atang, the lawmaker urged security agencies to redouble efforts in the fight against terrorism.
He expressed sadness over the tragic murder of the student in Borno State alongside two other indigenes of the state by ISWAP.
Ayuba also expressed worry that Dalep’s execution came after a similar incident involving two innocent indigenes of Plateau State – Lawrence Duna Dacighir and Godfrey Ali Shikaghem – in October 2019, by the terrorists.
He commiserated with the family, the Mupun nation and all citizens of Plateau State on the execution of the student.
