By Daniel Dauda,Jos
The member representing Jos North/ Bassa Constituency at the National Assembly, Haruna Maitala said security of lives and properties is very sacrosanct more so people should disregard over politicization of security.
Maitala Who expressed worried over the persisting attacks and killings of innocent citizens in his Bassa Constituency confirmed they are working out modalities to overcome the challenges.
According to him"My Constituency in Bassa is one of troublesome because I realized we have challenges of sentiment. Religion sentiment, tribal sentiment even among the religion body you have set which you have to sit down and bring this people together and find that you move them well.
"Like what is happening in Irigwe the committee, has been set by Irigwe traditional council and I am glad to tell you that I sat down with the committee some we ago we farm tune action I promised to contact the Senator representing Northern zone to discuss about the issue of security in our Constituency because security should not be taking as a political issues honestly, I am not going to encourage that! Been him in PDP and I am APC we should come back work together, bring state member representing the area and sit down to bring out things that would tackle this problem once and for all so that peace will reign in Irigwe land, Bassa LGA, Plateau State and Nigeria as whole." He disclosed.
The lawmaker, Maitala spoke to journalists recently in Jos concerning the fertilizer distribution to beneficiaries ahead of farming season.
"The gesture is in line with our campaign promised which is to empower the youth and women and I realized that part of the empowerment or encouragement that I gave to the youth is to go back to farm. Farming is very, very important in the live of human being. So they should get to the farm instead of staying idle. So we started with the party executive because they were the first set of people that brought us to this office.
Every member of the executive arm of the party is able to get one bag of fertilizer. I have thirty wards in my Constituency, fourteen from Jos North and sixteen in Bassa.
On the achievement recorded so far having spent one year in office; He admit that "I always said it when you are in new place you need to settle down. When I found myself in the House of Assembly, I involved deeply in the process of selecting the speaker of Federal House of Representatives, we went round and campaign and by the special grace of God Femi became a speaker and Maje Idris Emerged deputy and committees were set up which I happened to found myself in eleven different committee.
And soon after that we swarm into action, at the committee level we started meeting. We reviewed the budget of 2019, in the course of doing that unfortunately coronavirus came in and there was this lockdown and activities were not been able to move well and were not done something much in those committees but we have done a lot of changes. We're being able to passed the budget which Mr. President signed into law and because of COVID-19.
"As far as I am concerned politics is all about development and by the grace of God we're starting. We have WAEC registration for January and February which we registered about five hundred students and we embark for the JAMB which we did, after that we have this lockdown which we provided this palliative of fertilizer and give it out to the beneficiaries to go back to farming. Very soon we will embark on empowerment programmes in the next one or two months.
After that we will embark on some other projects such as infrastructure of roads, provision of water and other things.
On raising or prevailing cases of COVID-19 in Jos North "we provided two thousand bags of rice 10kg and two thousand bags of millets 10kg and other essentials as palliative to Constituents during lockdown.
And after that I went round appealing to stakeholders to please be advising the young ones, that is members of my Constituency to abide by the rules and regulations provided by the Nigeria center for Disease control(NCDC). Is unfortunate the pandemic keeps flowing in Jos North but we will take care of that by the grace of God! Maitala concluded.
