PLASU VC, Prof Izam Set To Build & Reposition PLASU, Health Sector
The Vice Chancellor Plateau State University, Bokkos Prof Yohanna Izam has disclosed his administration readiness to reposition the health sector of the university to a world class standard including that of the, senate chamber as well as addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prof Izam stated this during an interactive with our medium at his residence, Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau state recently.
He said, "when I came on board as the Vice Chancellor of PLASU , I have put in place measures toward guaranteeing and the safety of students, staff including visitors coming into the university campus".
According to him, the intervention of N50 million to Plateau State University, Bokkos by Plateau State Government as Covid -19 Response Funds, the management of the University had already unveiled safety to that effect.
In a bid to guarantee the safety of staff, students and visitors to the University, the VC appreciated the effort of university for response to the current event emerging of projects and handing of the Senate chamber ongoing project.
"We appreciate the founding fathers under the TEFUND intervention the released of funds and handing over the contract. The site was strategically chosen and also a rally point for other buildings visibly in term of landscape".
Prof Izam commended Governor Simon lalong for tremendous support and without the support enjoy from state and governor, the university won’t achieve overwhelming victory among five universities were he help us to identify to establish laudable projects.
He explained that two faculties are already redefining in the area of physical and landscape development in the area of projects execution in the university.
Yohanna Izam stressed that this covid-19 pandemic had affected the Plateau state university, Bokkos so we consider as one of the most badly hit by the development because of the aged long tradition of learning and teaching our students remain at home for a very long time.
However, in preparation for reopening we have unveiling some safety measures of refurbished refuse collection vehicle, an incinerator, infrared forehead thermometers, touch free sanitizer dispensers, auto soap dispensers, wash hand basins and other safety facilities acquired by the COVID 19 Hygiene and Sanitation Committee.
Professor Izam said the COVID 19 pandemic which is now ravaging the nations, institutions and societies, the University needs to adapt to the new normal way of adhering to all safety measures in preparatory to resumption of our students in due course.
He maintained that the revitalization of the weekly sanitation exercise in the University earlier declared to hold on every Friday saying the University has declared a war against all forms of refuse on the campus and directed the works department and environment unit to ensure strict adherence to the directive.
Prof Izam noted that with all materials purchased for the collection and disposal of waste shall be given adequate attention.
Also to avoids large congregation, we prioritize of time and stager this tenure of Staff to avoid over crowded gathering of people in one place.
We continue to fight environmental hazard thank the state government in the covid-19, we understand nobody was prepare and the state allow us to make use of the meager resources to response .
Prof Yohanna Izam said it quite commendable gesture for prompt response by Governor Simon lalong the cash at hand and the provision, we were able to response immediately to the pandemic.
He explained that the current effort the university is expanding the health centre run a clinic and upgrade it to health centre by employing director to provide enabling conducive working environment for it to be full blunt expansion to the university world standard.
“We are soon to commission the health centre of the university due for combine convocation ceremony, we decide we have a brand new centre ,” he added.
Prof Izam reiterated that ,the university got brand new Ambulance which the management has already taken delivery with stage of the art laboratory equipment so as soon arrangement is concluded ,we plan for a workshop and retraining of staff to brace up for modern health facilities at the health centre.
He said strategies employed toward fighting the coronavirus is one of the safer measures with world class facilities ,so the university set for reopening .
We have put in place a number of two weeks ago procuring some equipment new normal station hand sanitizers ,commission hand washing ,testing temperature thermometer ventilator and rehabilitate vehicles for refuge disposal .
Also commission of generator, to ensure safety hygiene with large number of bins accelerator and the university is gradually planning for recycle of the refuge dump ,we make it compulsory the use of facemask to prevent spread.
