Professor Augustine Ikelegbe of University of Benin alter his voice on the need to restructure Nigeria and steam down insecurity bedeviling the country as the current system is not favourable.

Ikelegbe said never before in the history Nigeria, even during civil war that the country has face challenges that we passing through.

The erudite scholar, Prof. Ikelegbe shed his view on Saturday when featured as guest lecturer to honour late Prof. Habu S.Galadima the former director general of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies,NIPSS, Kuru, who have died in active service.

Speaking on the topic 'proliferation of small arms and the steaming conundrum of insecurity in Nigeria: prospects for control and sustainable security, Ikelegbe said the state of insecurity in Nigeria is as a result of mismanagement by the state actors.

"Relationship between the state and citizens have resulted to constant disconnection overtime".

He said no doubt there is increased in proliferation of arms which is fueling community banditry in Nigeria.

"Poverty, growing inequality, frustration among others are the major driver for small arms proliferation, and even state reaction generates consequences for the citizens nothing that about 8 million Nigerians have witnessed insecurity according to reports", Ikelegbe revealed.

He further reiterated that the magnitude of criminality in Nigeria has increased excessively as kidnappers and Bandits have dam.

"We need state reforms and restructure Nigeria for the better. Is high time for Nigerian elite to think outside the box by improving the living standard of its citizens if not curtailing insecurity will continue to be a mirage", he noted.
