The Plateau State Executive Council at its meeting presided over by the Executive Governor Simon Bako Lalong on 1st December, 2021 at the EXCO Chambers, approved the Draft Bill on the Plateau State Children Trust Fund 2021 to be sent to the Plateau State House of Assembly. 


Briefing newsmen after the Exco Meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Communication Hon. Dan Manjang said the Bill when accented to will provide for the rights and welfare of the children. The bill is borne out of the passion to replicate the European Union and UNICEF Projects that are currently ongoing in the State whose sole responsibility is promoting the right and welfare of the children particularly in the area of health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene and education. 


The European Union and UNICEF Projects and programmes are tenured and at the end of the projects the Plateau State Government deems it necessary to facilitate the Public Private Driven Children Trust fund that will be headed by an Executive Secretary and Board of Trustees that shall determine the modus operandi of the Trust Fund when the bill comes into fruition. 


In a similar vein the Executive Council approved a draft policy on street addressing and house numbering which is in line with standard global practices. This when achieved will facilitate ease of location of places for tourism, security, emergency services and revenue generation. The EXCO also came up with summarized inventory of existing streets such as:

1. Number of addressed Street zones to the tune of 28

2. Streets with approved names – 227

3. Streets with unapproved names - 194   

4. Streets without names at all – 4195

5. Identified isolated Streets  - 4616

6. Identified Isolated Number of Highways – 33

7. Number of Roads put at  - 370

8. Number of Streets  - 447

9. Number of Links – 503

10. Number of closes – 2344

11. Number of Alleys – 550

12. Number of Crescents – 36

13. Number of Boulevards – 5

14. Other types such as Slumps etc – 350


All List of Inventories are within the Jos Greater Master Plan and will be transmitted to the Ministry of Justice bill in its legal frame work for onward presentation to the Plateau State House of Assembly for approval and subsequently accented to as a Bill by the Executive Governor.


The Commissioner for Health Dr. Nimkong Lar also gave an update on the Status of Covid 19 while stating that Plateau State is 5th after Lagos, FCT, Rivers and Kaduna in the Log table of States.


He further stated that so far Plateau State have tested 91,963 people and yesterday the 305 were tasted with 43 confirmed cases. Cumulatively, Plateau has 9443 confirmed cases of Covid 19 while 53 are currently being managed with Covid 19 and he stated also that Plateau State has so far lost 73 people and discharged 9852.

He disclosed that Plateau State is on the second phase of the Covid 19 vaccination and at the moment Plateau State have received 100,250 AstraZeneca and 50,004 Modena vaccines. Since the beginning of vaccination in Plateau State, 221,502 citizens have been fully vaccinated and Plateau State is poised to vaccinate a total number of 2 million by the end of January 2022.


He warned against refusal to be vaccinated and calls on citizens to reach out to primary health care centers in the Local Government Areas for the vaccines. He called on citizens to make it a point of duty to get vaccinated as the vaccines are available and free and to also not that the new variant of Covid-19 doesn’t come with the usual signs of cough but only come with pains that leads to death.
