Mrs Josephine Piyo, Deputy Governor Plateau State

Plateau state deputy governor, Mrs Josephine Piyo has hailed women in rural communities for their immense contributions to sustainable development, particularly in the area of agriculture and rural enterprises in Plateau state. 

Piyo said this in a congratulatory message to mark the International Day of Rural Women, which is commemorated on October 15 each year to celebrate and applaud the role of women in rural development, food production and poverty eradication. 

She applauded rural women for supporting their households and communities in providing food, generating income, improving rural livelihoods and overall wellbeing of families in the state. 

The deputy who described rural women in the state as dogged and resilient, said that it was critical that they are accorded their rightful place as active participants, in the efforts to achieve sustainable development in Plateau. 

Piyo stated the governor Mutfwang-led administration was sensitive to gender equality and women’s empowerment which she said are essential components of human development and basic human rights. 

She stressed that their administration was working assiduously to ensure that local communities are safe for farming and other businesses to thrive.
