Comedian Godwin Alechenu Ogah A.K.A Funny Gee
A popular stand up comedian/content creator in Jos, Plateau State, Godwin Alechenu Ogah with the stage name Funny Gee has advised Nigerians youths to invest their talents in entertainment because the industry is now a hidden money spinning venture in the country.
According to him, the industry is rich and booming at the moment in Nigeria. He urged talented youths not to give up but to venture into it, adding that with diligent and persistent they will have a break through one day.
Funny Gee stated this during one of his Exclusive hit the ground show held at Mee's palace Jos. The event featured stand up comedians like Sabinus, Omodan , Julius among others.
He disclosed how he was able to raised support for one Silas John who was left half dead on the street of Jos through his comedy show. According to him, the guy he helped get to the hospital and when he was stable he was able to raised over N2.5 million for him.
"Somebody told him to go and look for a house he want to pay the rent of two bedrooms flat for him. Another person gave his daughter scholarship for one year. He got this assistance through his comedy show".
"My comedy show is always from the humanitarian aspect . I am a psychologist by training. I am a trauma healing competent giver. I am merging humanitarian services with comedy so that I will entertain by way of given back to the people in the society."
According to him, he will do everything humanely possible within the ambit of the law to promote the industry in Plateau, especially with the dynamics situation of the state , all the key players in the industry will be brought to Jos to entertain people and help them reduce tension and stress.
He also said the show in Jos was a huge success adding that it was a premium laughter, premium music and premium entertainment, the standard you can get in Lagos, London and anywhere in the world.
He commended Sibanus for honouring his invitation to come and entertain Jos audience . According to him, the challenge is getting them to agree to come over to perform, because of insecurity, but I often told them that Jos is peaceful, and is not what they think. People always portrayed Jos in a bad light, despite that the state still remain the home of peace and tourism.
"So I want to thank Sabinus and other comedians for taking a bold step to come over and experience what is happening in Jos themselves. So now they can be Ambassadors of Plateau state. So whenever they hear any negative thing about the state outside they will say no, I have been there, Jos is a peaceful place."
He further disclosed that the challenge in the industry is funding. This show is solemnly sponsored by me, although we have few people who have supported us, it is like a drop in the ocean, because you are bringing this calibre of people, you know what it means in the mainstream entertainment industry.
"With this development audience in Jos have the opportunity to also watch people from Lagos, Portharcourt, Warri performed . They also deserved to watch a world class entertainment but the challenged is, giving them the amount of money that are being paid in Lagos, Portharcourt, Warri and other places.
"You know you have to fly them into Jos, a return ticket. So we don't have enough support at all. We don't have companies to say we are going to support this, we are going to take care of flight tickets, we are going to pay the artists, renumeration and all of that."
He further noted that if you must thrive in this industry in Jos today, you have to do it from your own pocket. So, funding is a big challenge for us. We have to sell our property most time to put the state on the right pedestal by given the people premium entertainment that they so desired.
Speaking on his vision Funny Gee said his vision is to bring people from all over the world, America, London or wherever to Jos to entertain the people. "Plateau really is the home of peace and Tourism. The best weather is here . So, my dream is to get people from around the world to come to Jos".
He further said it is high time to bring this people here to experience Plateau. And also who knows some of them may become investors in the state who will also help talented youths to grow and match up with those in the mainstream.
"So when the home boys from Jos is performing on the same stage with someone like Sabinus and others, it give him a sense of belonging and hope that he took can do it. With that you are encouraging them to grow and become a big name in the industry.
Also speaking to our correspondent shortly after the show Emmanuel Chukwuemeka with the stage Sabinus said Jos over the years has produced great people like Ice Prince, M.I, 2 Face, MC Shakara, Funny Gee who are contributing their quota to the entertainment industry in the country. He added that, that is why he respect people from this axis of Nigeria.
