The chairmanship candidate in the forthcoming Plateau Youth Council (PYC) elections, comrade Isaac Mapis Jonathan has expressed optimism over the safe release of 20 Nigerian Medical Students by kidnappers.

Recalled the 20 Nigerian Medical Students from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos were kidnapped in Benue state on the 15th August, 2024.

A statement made available to this medium on Monday in Jos, Plateau State capital, Comrade Mapis applauded security agencies for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment which aid in rescue the students.

According to Mapis, It is with immense relief and gratitude that we acknowledge the safe release of the twenty Nigerian medical students who were kidnapped while traveling to a conference in Benue State on August 15.

"These students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, have been returned to their families and communities, thanks to the determined efforts of our security agencies, who acted with professionalism and dedication. Their tactical and effective rescue, without the payment of ransom, is commendable, and I extend my deepest appreciation to the Nigerian Police and all involved in securing their freedom.

"This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity that continues to plague our nation. While we celebrate the safe return of these students, we cannot ignore the underlying issue—rising abductions and criminal activity driven by economic hardship and other factors. This situation demands concerted efforts from all sectors of society, including government, security forces, and the general public.

"In this critical time, I call on Nigerian youth to unite in the face of adversity. We must recognize the strength we possess when we stand together, across tribal, ethnic, and regional lines, to advocate for peace, justice, and security. Our collective voice is powerful, and through unity, we can bring about meaningful change. We must also be vigilant in supporting efforts to combat insecurity at all levels, calling on the government to take stronger actions against the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

"Moreover, it is essential that we continue to build trust and collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies. This successful rescue operation has shown that, with cooperation and commitment, we can overcome even the most daunting challenges.

"Let this event serve as a turning point in our efforts to create a safer Nigeria for all. Together, we must work towards ensuring that no individual, family, or community endures the terror and trauma of abduction. I urge all youth to remain resolute, engaged, and proactive in promoting peace and security in our country.

"Finally, let us extend our support and compassion to the families of the released students. We remain in solidarity with them and all who have been affected by these ongoing security challenges", Mapis added.
