In commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Project Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Plateau State, Mrs. Nanbam Esther Danjuma (Lot), has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to combating gender-based violence and advancing the rights of women and girls.


Mrs.Lot highlighted the efforts of the Plateau State government, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in promoting gender equality, protecting women, and supporting vulnerable groups, which underscores its dedication to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 on gender equality.

“The governor has shown unwavering commitment to creating an environment where women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the development of our state,” Lot stated.

In a statement signed by the Information Officer SDGs Plateau State, Mathias Shenang Yengoet, she outlined several initiatives spearheaded by the administration, including strengthening legislation to hold perpetrators of violence accountable, empowering women through economic and skills-based programmes, and ensuring their inclusion in governance by appointing women to key leadership positions.

Mrs. Lot also highlighted the achievements of the Plateau State SDGs in addressing gender-based violence and promoting equality, including community sensitization workshops and advocacy campaigns, supporting health and education initiatives to ensure access to essential services for women and girls, particularly in rural areas.

Looking ahead, the Coordinator disclosed that  Plateau SDGs is committed towards strengthening collaborations with civil society organizations and international agencies to mobilize resources for gender-focused initiatives.

Mrs.Lot called on all Plateau citizens to unite against gender-based violence, emphasizing that it is a societal issue that demands collective action.

“Let us commit to creating a Plateau State where every woman and girl can live free from fear and violence, realizing their full potential in a just and equitable society,” she urged.
