Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, has expressed deep concern over recent security incidents and reported killings in Angwan Rukuba, appealing for restraint, calm, and collective responsibility among residents.
He described the incidents as quiet unfortunate and a painful setback to the peace and stability of the state, noting that the loss of innocent lives requires collective restraint, sober reflection, and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday by the press secretary to the Speaker, Philip Eplong.
According to the statement, Speaker commended the swift response of the Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, particularly his prompt visits to affected communities and immediate interventions aimed at restoring order and reassuring citizens.
Rt. Hon. Naanlong urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing efforts by security agencies to restore normalcy, while cautioning against spreading unfolded rumours capable of escalating tensions within communities.
He also appealed to the youths to resist attempt by mischief-makers to exploit the situation for violence or reprisal attacks, stressing that the future of the state depends on their commitment to peace, discipline, and constructive engagement.
Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel emphasized that the Plateau State House of Assembly will continue to work closely with the Executive arm of government and relevant security authorities to strengthen coordination, support peace-building initiatives, and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.
He further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts in promoting unity, love, and tolerance within their respective domains, stressing that peace at grassroots remains essential to lasting stability.
The Speaker expressed confidence that with continued collaboration, and collective commitment from all stakeholders, peace will be sustained and strengthened across Plateau State.
