PMB COMMENDS TALLEN, ENJOINS HER MINISTRY TO SUSTAIN LEAD ...PROMISES CONTINUOUS SUPPORT FOR WOMEN WELL BEING
President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, and the Ministry for the role they are playing in the alleviation of the plight of women, children and the vulnerable people of Nigeria, and enjoins them to sustain the lead with the promise of continuous support for the realization of their goals.
Speaking at the officially commissioning of the head office of the Women Affairs Ministry in Abuja Thursday, President Buhari commended the roles played by the ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other agencies in the fight against human trafficking and mortality rate in child birth.
He said, "The Ministry of Women Affairs and Education have made meaningful contributions in collaborations with other agencies in areas including trafficking of humans and mother mortality rate." The President went on, "I enjoin the ministry to continue to champion and coordinate all matters related to the plight of the Nigerian women and the most vulnerable citizens.
" I assure you of my continuous support and determination to see that the ministry delivers on its mandate "
The President who said he was very pleased to formally commissioned the national headquarters of the Ministry of Women Affairs, said the quest of his administration is to ensure that the concerns of women, children and the vulnerable citizens are given prominence and ultimately addressed. He said, "The key priority of our government is the development and implementation of social inclusion and economic sustenance policies.
"Our determination is to ensure that the economic growth and prosperity is felt by the right channels as possible; in particular we are laying great emphasis on education of the girl-child. The high level number of girls who are out of school or unable to complete school due to social economic pressure is disturbing and must be addressed.
"It is our collective duty that mothers of today and tomorrow are educated and encouraged and empowered.
"The launch for national strategy to end child menace 2016 - 2021 has been the fast crucial sector, and also increasing children excess to quality all round education and enhancing determination of the girl-child in our schools. These measures will safeguard girl-child education."
Finally Mr. President posits that it is his expectation that the Ministry of Women Affairs maintains its lead role on matters concerning the well-being of women, children and the less vulnerable, while wives of governors, regional and international agencies partner with the ministry.
