Lalong Legacy Projects': Group Express Doubts Over Conclusion
By Daniel Dauda, Jos
A concern group under the aegis of Plateau Rescue Front, one of ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, party caucus has expressed fear, worried and doubt over the eligibility, vis-a-vis logical conclusion of Governor Simon Lalong ongoing 'Legacy Projects'
You would recall immediately Governor Lalong secured mandate of second term of office keyed in to buildings of schools and hospitals across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State called the legacy projects.
Plateau Rescue Front in an open letter to President Mohammadu Buhari, signed by
it's coordinator Francis Kwarpo worried that the projects would not see the light of the day due to many reasons.
Kwarpo opines that the State Governor for instance, introduced what he called''the legacy projects" in the state by awarding contracts for the building of new schools and hospitals across all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State which if completed, would have lasting impact on the lives of the people of the locality and improve the public perception of the APC led government in the state.
"But we are however, worried that these projects would not see the light of the day due to many reasons.
" Reliable reports reaching us indicate that the projects were not conceived with the aim of getting completed. For instance,at an estimated cost of N2billion per Local Government it would have cost the State about N37billion but surprisingly budgetary estimates have put the total cost to be N69 billion.
"This certainly preposterous. With about N200million deducted directly from the Federation Account(ISPO) completing the projects in record time will be a pipe dream!" He said.
The coordinator, Kwarpo further revealed that the State already have 16 roads projects in all the Local Governments which were awarded but later abandoned.
He also alleged that "apart from the issues of lack of infrastructural development and the inherent problems associated with the few already started, the Governor's rating on social justice has been very low as he has established himself as highly nepotistic with little or no consideration for the diversity of Plateau State while favoring only people from his natal zone.
"A case in point is the worrying report that the State Government intends to site the Teaching Hospital for the State university which permanent site is in Bokkos, at his home Local Government of Shendam which is about 250km away."
Turning to Plateau South senatorial district rerun, the group accused Governor Lalong's attempt to impose a flag bearer without collective will of party stakeholders.
According to them " we are worried that the Governor is planning to impose a candidate in the forthcoming Senatorial elections in the southern zone; which seat became vacant since the death of Senator Ignatius Longjan which will have damning consequences on the fortune of the party.
"The extent of the impunity is that a person with no record of contribution to the party is being favored just to serve the Governor's parochial interest.
"As progressive we believe that government should be neutral and should be seen as objective and fair in addressing the concerns of party men and women who feel sideline more so as it was for the same reason of high handedness that the people of the State rejected the former ruling party in the state." The group warned.
