The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Plateau State, Hon. Sylvanus Tapgun stated that the emergence of Professor Nora Daduut as the first female Senator in the Saturday's 5th December,2020, Plateau South Senatorial district by-election has opened a vista for women folks.
"So, with the emergence of the women as the Senator representing Southern zone I think the women have been given the note to contest at different levels, it depend on the polity", he mentioned.
The Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs commissioner believes with the pedigree and antecedents of Prof. Nora Daduut she capable of changing the fortune of socio-economic development, women and youth empowerment of not only the zone but Plateau and Nigeria as a whole.
"So be sure she is going to take the issue of women, Youths be the front bunner. We have had the issue of woman empowerment, Youth empowerment and I think as a woman that should be her focus.
"That is not to say men would not have their own piece of the cake. Certainly, men are part and parcel of the society. But I think women and youth would be the primary focus and that is the gains that would come as we hope."
On what make ruling All Progressive Congress,APC, victorious in the elections,Tapgun acknowledged that the state government has put in place a lot across Plateau State.
"A lot of the efforts that the Governor Simon Lalong has put in place in terms of infrastructure, in terms empowerment is all there for people to see. The lack of resources notwithstanding, so this has paid off people to now supporting government to continue, that is where clearly the area of focus.
"Another thing is that the state government has been working hard to ensure that the kind of social engineering youth, women and in every aspect; the traditional rulers, religious leaders are always brought on board and brief appropriately and they have given all the time by giving honest advise to government and the government work with it in various aspects.
"So this has galvanized the hope towards backing the government in its endeavour. So actually when it comes to elections it is easy for government to get people to be in her side", Tapgun stated.
He also call on the Senator-elect to embrace and carry every body along towards the common goal of the people.
Recall Professor Nora Daduut is the first female Senator from Plateau State and second in the North Central geopolitical zone after Bisola Saraki.
